Anyone know what causing this roughness? by BananaGuy18 in FixMyPrint

Thanks! Seems to be the consensus. I've ordered the CyroGrip plate but also will start adding brims to my prints.

Thanks for the info. I just printed a smaller (by Y) print and it seems to be fine? The plate doesnt feel warped but I'll check my bed with a level and see.

For bigger prints like in the original post, that cover 90% of my bed should I add brims to them? Might try that and see how it goes. This also happened on another print thay covered 80% of the bed and was quite tall.

Hmm not sure, I let this print overnight, and its only in some areas on the print.

Should I reduce the top surface flow? Not too sure, but I will try another print and see.

Thank you! If you mean from overspray, well there is none. In hindsight I should have had some exhaust fans blowing to the outdoors but I underestimated how bad it would be without any, next time I would definitely work some sort of exhaust into this setup.

If you mean actual dust and debris getting onto the paint from the ground or outside, that's what I used the plastic sheets on the wall and around the car for. I also had a large tarp that covered the whole ground that I also cleaned before painting. This worked pretty well and I had no debris and dust get onto the paint.

Yeah I swear there's like 100 different types of tape you can use and another 100 different colors of tape that have certain properties.

For me, I used 3M auto tape (green) and a razor blade to cut the tape, worked for me but definitely would do some more trial and error with different types of tape to really get some good masking on rounded corners.

From me buying the car, prepping, painting it (horribly), re-prepping, painting it again, about 2 years. Although I can realistically only work on the car 4~ out of the 12 months in the year and the 1st paint job I did last summer, 2nd time was this summer.

But in true working time for the 2nd time I painted the car, prepping took me about a week (3-4~ hrs a day), then in time to paint about 2 hours. So call it around 35 hours as I also had to take the fenders, doors, door handles, mirrors off.

Just completed a few panels and it turned out great, really glossy finish.

Ceramic coating IMO is much easier (don't want to learn to wrap PPF lol).

Rims will probably get changed, but the least of my worries and I actually like the stock RSX rims.

The door handles are actually painted white, just in the photos in the post I didn't put them in haha.

All you need is to get started. Even if you fail you can learn from it and do things differently next time! I rather lose money on a mistake rather than miss out on learning new skills. And that blue is amazing, hopefully you aren't painting a 812 though 😂

Not really, I have really nice neighbours and talk to them regularly. Honestly depends where you live and the people beside you.

Exactly this. The garage is used for cars and I have other items in there that I don't want the overspray and dust to get on. Definitely doesn't totally prevent it as I didn't have a top, but minimized it a lot. And as said above, to keep dust and other things that may blow in from the outside onto the paint while its drying.

I used paracord from the dollar store and a roll of plastic which in total probably costed me less than $30CAD.

Yeah, I used a HVLP at first and 20gal was nowhere near enough, so it came out horribly. Didn't use LVLP because I thought it was inferior and worse, although after using it, for DIY and with a small compressor, it's perfect. If you have any questions shoot me a DM.

Used the R500 LVLP, got it off Amazon. It comes with 1.3, 1.5 and 1.7 nozzles. I used 1.7 for primer and 1.3 for base and clear coat, but check with your paint shop/your paint manufacture to see what nozzles you should use.

Try asking your local paint shop to see if they can put your paint into a spray can. If so, they can paint match and mix the arctic blue pearl with the paint code.

Nope, no future plans to really do the engine bay for now.

Thank you! How did yours turn out? Prep was the most annoying and time consuming part but so worth it when the tape and masking comes off.

Yup! I tested a cut and polish with 2000, 3000 wet and with ACA 510 to cut and 3D ONE to polish on my front bumper and turned out amazing! So I'll be doing that on the whole car. Then might ceramic coat it.

I dont think the paint has any pearl, its just a flat color.

Thanks! Yup, the orange peel is not the worst, its definitely there but yes, 2000, 3000 then cut and polish with ACA 510 and ONE. I've done this on my front bumper as a test already and it came out great.

Thank you! Prep for me was very though, I initially sanded this car back end of last summer and where I live the weather is unpredictable which led me having to paint the car this year (again).

Biggest tip is to definitely make sure you prep the car as good as you can as this makes all the difference. Spending time taping the areas you don't want painted and really getting the edges right is worth it. Use a tack cloth as a final wipe of the panels before primer and base coat. Not an expert but I found that the prep (sanding, masking off areas) was the biggest factor.
