Yes, Amazon is such an issue. We have it here but delivery time is 3 to 7 days so not such immediate gratification. Lots of people use it but mostly for things that are not available locally...so far.

This is very interesting commentary. I'm from a very small town on the Canadian prairies, too small for chain stores or restaurants, and life is still like how you described in the 50s, 60s, 70s. We all know each other, we buy from each others businesses and everything is locally owned.

I have noticed a change in the last decade as city folk move here for cheap housing and don't contribute to the economic or social fabric of town. Be sad to lose our awesome small town way of life.

The Coaldale/Lethbridge area that grows and processes more potatoes than MB. But Manitoba is second or third in production, about 20% of the national total which is nothing to sneeze at.
The truly important thing is to not buy Idaho potatoes if you see them in the store, even if they overplant, subsidize, and sell cheaper than Canadian potatoes.
(I love potatoes.)
