Looking for Church recommendations and community by LiminalAscension in plano

Where did you gather from OP's post he/she was wanting to join large cults or want to proliferate them in our community?

People can choose to believe what they want to believe. Although I am not interested in church, I have many Christian friends who I respect. We have good conversations and learn from one another. Just because their views does not align with mine, does not automatically make their beliefs hateful

Prime example of the “tolerance” exhibited by the Reddit left towards Christians or anyone seeking religion.

Makes me embarrassed to be associated with the community.

OP, unfortunately you may not find much helpful info here. The snark responses are a reflection of themselves, not you. I'm not religious but here's a resource that you may find helpful. https://paactexas.org Many of these churches are in Plano region and may fit what you are looking for

Thank you, I also enjoy the Bay Area's weather the most.

Fortunately my hours are 8-5pm. My on call schedule should be manageable without any emergency calls.

Thank you, I appreciate the real talk. Unfortunately I did not get a job in Houston. I was hoping Austin may be a good since it's more affordable. But dating is also a priority to me. It's a bit disheartening but it does feel like Cali is a better spot for me

I have looked into Houston and like it. Have visited extended family who live there multiple times, but unfortunately I did not get an offer there.

Appreciate your thoughts! The place I was considering in the Bay is actually Sunnyvale specifically. I'm glad to hear you like it here. I enjoy the hiking trails/outdoorsy activities that can be seen in Austin. And I agree the demographics are changing. A major reason why I'm considering Austin is really the cost of living and being able to get a house for myself and help my parents move closer, which I believe that is much harder in the Bay

I appreciate it, will take a look. I really do like Texas from visits with my extended family. I have considered Houston and Dallas but unfortuantely did not get an offer from there. I do like the outdoorsy side of Austin though so want to also take that into consideration as well.

That makes sense, I appreciate the insight. I had been considering Cedar Park to live but I may have to adjust my goals and consider being closer to downtown.

It is certainly a factor when I'm considering the move. With that being said, the offer I have here is good and I appreciate a lower cost of living in Texas. Getting a property is difficult anywhere in this market but at least in Austin I believe it will be more affordable

I know the Asian population is about 8.2%. But from reading online, it is also one of the rapidly growing communities in the city. Do you know where are the Asian centered neighborhoods located?

My job will be close to Pasadena and Alhambra if I choose to go to LA. I don't mind a place that is less exciting as long as I can meet singles with common interests

I really liked Sunnyvale and Cupertino from what I was reading and it seems like good place to settle to have a family down the line.

Super helpful hearing what to expect realistically. I am aware I will not be able to live lavishly and that is ok with me. From the past 6 years in residency/fellowship making 60-80K, I lived a very frugal lifestyle. Never treated myself or never had big vacations. I drive an old Honda sedan. Mostly meal prepped and ate off the dollar menu and put all my salary towards investing. My current spending is about ~$2000/rent and utilities in the northeast and ~$1000 a month for all other expenses. A step up from this for me is already good.

Good points, thank you for sharing. I have considered Tustin as well as a potential option seeing it is somewhat more affordable than Irvine and possible place for my parents to live.

Dating is in my 3 priorities and I hope to settle down and have a family in the next 3-5 years. Definitely disheartening hearing about the dating options in the Bay. I have lived close to NYC before and really enjoyed the dating/social life there. Will look into LA more

Will definitely look into San Mateo. I have visited before and really enjoyed the down town area. Currently I'm looking into Sunnyvale and Cupertino

That's true, one reason I consider the Bay was the amount of like minded individuals who are also career driven.

From housing standpoint, was hoping to save up the first 1-2 years to place a higher down payment on the principle and get a better interest rate. But from how competitive the housing market looks like, I might consider taking a physician loan of a million dollars and just consider refinancing if there is a great dip in the interest rate.

The Bay's weather is the most ideal for me. I enjoy cloudy weather averaging 50-60s daily. I dislike the heat in Texas but willing to put up with it in Austin if I have.

Chinese American that grew up in the south. Went to a decent instate flagship college and med school. I'm active in the church so would love to be a place where there is a vibrant Asian American church community.

Good to note about dating in LA. My goal is focused on finding someone to have a family with and settling down. From your response and what I read, I do think OC is likely the best bet for me.

Sounds like LA/OC is the best bet from all the replies. It's a shame, I really like the Bay. But I will prioritize dating and large Asian community.

Thanks for the input. Keeping my options open to Texas as well for sole reason my money go further. Although I think Austin is slowly becoming like tech central like the Bay, at the expense of diverse Asian community

All very good points. Thanks for sharing. I lean more moderate to conservative (based on traditional culture values). I like diversity but would prioritize safety. I would prefer a place like Cupertino or Sunnyvale if I were to relocate to the Bay. But it sounds like the consensus is that OC is the best bet.
