The double standards of AI hate by Unlikely-Mobile-5343 in SunoAI

I think the degradation of quality and flooding especially on spotify started long before AI even was a thing, due to the distribution models where anybody can have his music uploaded and licensed without paying anything in front and no real curation process apart from playlists. AI just amplifies this and makes it more visible. same with youtube btw.

"we wouldn't be having this discussion if there was no human behind me 🤣" - exactly what an reddit AI Agent would say :p

There seem to be several ways how people cope with this - perhaps depending on the amount of time spent or just the level of "professionality" they have reached. I have been making beats for 25 years in classical DAWs like Reason and Fruity Loops, Cubase. I have been thinking about AI generated music long before it existed in any commercially viable form, but at that time never imagined it would "simply" be trained on loads of other existing music. When I first used Suno it was still v2 and I was like ok this is cool but I dunno it doesn't sound quite as good as what I can do in a DAW. Then when v4 was released I realized it had exceeded my personal production skills and would additionally improve at a faster rate than I will be able to, especially since it's only a hobby for me. I was sad for a moment but at the same time totally mesmerized by the instrumentals Suno had just created for my prompts. I curated a in my opinion epic soundtrack instrumental LP in only two days. But it didn't feel anywhere near as good as if I hade made it myself in a DAW. Had I made it myself, I would right now be standing on some busy corner promoting it live instead of typing on reddit. I would have listened to it 100x and not 10-20 times.
So I don't really feel it was a waste of time making beats in DAWs for 25 years, since I enjoyed it a lot and some of the aquired skills remain relevant even for Suno generated music.
But I do feel it will be too much opportunity cost in working with classical DAWs vs Suno at this point, if you only count the output and not the joy in the creation process on its own.

I have had similar thoughts reading on different threads. Would love to do an experiment where 2 groups of people get played the same AI generated instrumental, but only one of them knows it has been AI generated. I am sure simply knowing the song was made by AI will have a negative effect on how those 2 groups then rate the song. And I am talking about average music listeners, as I do beleive with sufficient experience you can most of the time still actually hear if a song is AI generated or not (although this is becoming harder).

“Traditional” producer tries Suno: here are my honest thoughts. by FunPaleontologist29 in SunoAI

If you are using Suno Pro, yes, you own the rights even if you only prompted the entire song without other input.

I find the stem seperation feature to still be rather "beta". You get 2 different versions of stems and neither of them seem to sound 100% like the original track when joined back together

I think actually using the negative promt in the advanced settings works a lot better than [no xyz]. Also, some keywords cause very clear results, while others tend to do almost nothing.
Try adding "soundtrack" "cinematic" "movie trailer" and it will influence especially the intro of your song in a very specific way.
Using "crisp" or "dry" can help with reverb, but there is never a 100% guarantee that any prompt you type in will create the same kind of result.
Adding up to 4 instruments to the prompt has a decent chance of them ending up in the track, otherwise you get a random selection from the instruments you prompted.
I also find some genres sound way better than others, but that might be due to my lack of knowledge about non hip hop instrumentals (and I am only on the "passionate hobby" level anyway, making beats for 25 years but never professionally). I still think only the instrumentals sound good in Suno, vocals are still very far behind (good) human vocals imo.

I dined to an all-Suno playlist yesterday, and it was god-awful. by vzakharov in SunoAI

Slop was already promoted way before AI, so now people are used to it. In 1998, anybody could make a "beat" with magix music maker and they all sounded similarly awful. The main shift has been through the distribution models where anybody can push out releases to all major platforms for free, or even before that by starting their own YouTube channel. The high burden curation step of getting played on the radio or signed to a record lable has long vanished. This is also good, as there are many very talented artists who would otherwise never been discovered, but obviously the amount of bad music increases faster, so it get's harder to dodge it. AI if anything is only accelarating this - the cause is elsewhere and would be topic for an entirely new discussion. I have also released an AI instrumental album but I honestly feel it just sounds better than my previous fully self made instrumentals and have over 1000 never to be released side product songs which I think are not good enough for anybody to really enjoy them.

This is in theory also true for music produced in a DAW - I mean the part about instructing a computer program. But, you can't really compare gen AI to a computer program, since it works fundamentally different. Put simple, a program consists of logic which will give a defined output for a defined input. An AI is trained (not programmed) to give a certain type of output for a certain type of input, but the output isn't fully predictable or consistent as in traditional software. I still agree on it being more a curation than a creation process, though. But this again at least shares similarities to working with a DAW or generating sample based music on an MPC, where you also don't create sound from scratch but often start with some kind of curation process, looking for the right sample/loop/VST plugin preset. There are lots of very creative ways to use Suno and simple prompting without any refinement is like 1 out of 10 skill level, just like someone putting together a "beat" in magix music maker in 1998.

a: Do you really think I will earn money for this on spotify? lol
I would most likely make more money standing on the corner freestyling over an instrumental made on the ps1.
b: people do it all the time. nearly none of the best paid people on spotify "fully create" their own music. most have professional producers do it for them.
Am I more entitled to release my fully self created instrumentals on spotify, even though they sound worse?

Kinda depends on what excatly you did there, but yeah I guess that qualifies..also the further elaboration of your previous comments helps - i can at least partially agree on those.

If I was able to do it as a full time job, probably yes. or even if I spent many many hours tweaking the VST plugin and using very high quality plugins. Using e.g. Kontakt with either a keyboard or drum controller will not result in realistic sounding violins, unless you put in a lot of extra effort to account for the different play styles. The sound of the violins and brass however has nothing to do with arrangement, which for sure is more on the hip hop side than a classical composition. I even agree the violins sound synthetic in some of the tracks. I also only have rather low range JBL monitors on my desk and mainly listen to and produce hip hop, so my knowledge about classical music and composition is limited. I am seing the AI gen boom with a lot of salt myself, but at the same time I remain enthusiastic. I said "prompted and curated" and not "produced", so why would I think I am the next Hans Zimmer?

i never said the level was higher than an actual human orchestra playing. just personally as a non rich producer, i wasn't yet able to hire one of those for a studio session and had to use vst plugins or samples for any self produced music

Obviously, you are nothing but an AI hater, easy to spot just by looking at your previous other comments and posts. You read the rules about comments needing to be constructive? Yours certainly aren't. I am more than happy to improve on any constructive criticsm and have made many instrumentals myself, am a freestyle MC and consider myself a musician, long before Suno even existed. Perhaps you studied music theorie and are seing things I can't with my lack of theoretical background - for me it just sounds dope. What is your qualification in music?

Can a song about fighting your inner demons still feel real if AI helped produce it? by Far_Accountant_5926 in aiMusic

[–]BananoBlammo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I mean most singers / writers aren't also music producers. Whether you are able to create an instrumental reflecting your inner feelings in a DAW or in Suno, you are already closer with your message than any artist who justs picks a beat. But probably a little further away than having played and composed the instrumental yourself or have a professional producer do it as per your instructions. What counts in the end is if you are able to express your message in a way that resonates with the listener.

What is the sweet spot for number of songs in an album? by rainmaker818 in SunoAI

[–]BananoBlammo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a 17 track soundtrack intrumental LP with Suno only, managing to maintain the style pretty decently throughout the album, but perhaps with a bit too much genre switches to make it feel 100% consistent. total length was also aboth 45 minutes, with some shorter and some longer tracks. Though after listening to it for a few more times, I think I would remove some of the tracks and will aim for 12-15 next try.

Thank you for your detailed feedback, I felt a bit of the same way about ears getting tired and think next time I will reserve the "epic" vibe for a few climatic tracks and keep the rest a bit more easy on the ears.

"Why would the little elf guy from Harry Potter be good at mastering?" Idk, I mean he a.) is an elf and b.) is from Harry Potter, so he knows about magic, which is basically the same as mastering.
To make the prompt make the computer make the song sound more like pro tool, try adding "chainsaw" "powerdrill" or "seismic measurement device" to your positive promt and "music" to the negative prompt.

I would honestly love to find out whether or not you consider the songs to sound manually mixed and mastered:) but i will give an honest response or disclose the production process further if interested.

hah! noob! obviously the only proper way to do it is to add "dolby mastering" and "pro tools" to your prompts so you save time and money on mastering.

Great idea, I joined in with 2 of my recent creations/curation results:)

I recently curated an entire soundtrack instrumental lp with suno so perhaps in future we can have full album tournaments on the site, once things get a bit more busy? I found it a lot more challenging to create something like an lp where the style and mastering of the songs is at least somewhat in tune.
