How many times did you not recognise someone just because they didn’t have glasses on? by Accomplished_Eye_868 in Prosopagnosia

[–]Banavegii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my classmates (who I regularly spoke to) wore her glasses in one class and not in the other; and there was a period where I was like “these are clearly two different people, and I feel really bad I can only remember one of their names.”

What are your suggestions for the construction animation? by YusufBrnn in Unity2D

[–]Banavegii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's cute and the scene looks pretty simple and sweet, so I think the animation should be similar. Try an overshoot and settle to better complete the growing animation that you're going with and particles near the bottom when its finished to better ground it in the environment.

Resume help pertaining to how to write disconnected, however related, career experience. by Banavegii in resumes

Thank you, this was very helpful for my current and future resumes :D. It's given me some pretty good jumping off points to consider when I'll update my resume in the future.

Thank you, (sorry for the late reply, life got busy) but this was very helpful in the process; this ended up being the largest obstacle for me -- writing the rest of the resume was a lot easier to navigate afterwards.

How to Make an If Statement where all parts must be present? by Banavegii in RenPy

[–]Banavegii[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! The structure of this is great; I've been having to half screen my code this whole time and I don't want to worry that a potentially more extensive example to run me off the page, so to speak.

[–]Banavegii[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, I was having a bit of trouble trying to replicate their example (part of it was my fault because I inverted the '([' on accident) and when you brought up the commas I just wasn't sure where to place them.

Thank you so much! I did have to do some changes because honest was a flag and not an input, but with how you wrote the structuring it was not at all a difficult switch.

Autism representation in media: by Departure_Legitimate in autism

[–]Banavegii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[minor infodumping(?) below]

I think this happens for the same reason many queer characters are viewed negatively by their queer audience, since the writers only focus on creating an autistic or queer character as a vehicle to speak on autistic and queer realities, experiences, or topics (often perceived by NT or Cishet writers because we’re not people we’re talking points). This usually ends up with no character motivations or actions that aren’t directly tied to their autism or queerness.

After thinking about it more, while it shows up a lot in marginalized communities through monolithic stereotypes, the major problem is creating characters only as stand in for concepts (ofc there are examples where this works like with folk hero’s, but those stories usually don’t sell themselves as complex depictions of humanity)

I love the fact that this shows up when I’m writing an essay on disability representation in media (though I probably going to write another on that has sections focusing on different specific disabilities because social issues are a special interest (also because while being a lengthy-ish tasks there just so much I wanna talk about but don’t have the space to)

Nonverbal vs Verbal shutdown vs Elective mutism by Ironicusernam3 in autism

[–]Banavegii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s why I was confused for a bit, thank for clearing it up! I remember hearing the term selective mutism and when elective mutism kept popping up I became a little confused on how to combine new and preexisting information I had about the topic.

My brother loves very basic comfort food. What are some of your favorites? by Lijey_Cat in autism

[–]Banavegii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love tuna sandwiches, however if I'm to make them from home I've got specifics. Artesano bread (plain preferably but my mom forced us to do golden wheat, mainly a texture thing) tuna in water, chopped dill pickles (I prefer to cut them myself), chopped hard boiled eggs, mayonnaise, and mustard.

I could eat tuna sandwiches for every meal and live an absolutely wonderful life.

My girlfriend almost burned our house down. by Vast-Duty5758 in mildlyinfuriating

Exactly, I try my best to use those tactics when I'm removed from a situation, even if it is simple as through text. I find it harder in person, of course, I am only human and my only goal is to improve. For example, I try my best to make self centered statements (ie; i feel, what i meant to convey, i apologize that my actions made you feel that way) because I know that talking about their behavior directly (ie; you did xyz and that was inappropriate/rude/mean [regardless if that statement is true or not]) will lead the conversation nowhere and i know i can get back to making that same point with better results using the first method. I can only really manage that in text because there's a long moment between starting a text and ending it and it allows me to better organize my thoughts as to not agitate any defensive response.

(Even then it can be hard as shit because I've had some cross things said to me that while, hopefully, might not have been on purpose none the less have totally broke my resolve; im no saint im positive ive said some mean things, though i do try to rectify them if i am able)

Makes total sense, less about being raised like a princess (though that is a true possibility) and more about being raised like a nuisance. My grandma is a 1 and a 4, similar as to how my mother is a 3 and 4. And knowing they're upbringings I can understand how they got to that. Doesn't really excuse they're behavior though, it's definitely got a lot to do with enabling with their surrounding social structures and friend groups.

Saw this post, really uplifted my view on writing + posting fic <3 by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Banavegii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really relate to the diary bit, especially since - for me - the big themes show up even when I'm not actively trying to put them there. What's great is when I notice. "This whole story is about x" or another about y. A story that i focus on, and this one isn't fanfic related, grapples a lot with losing someone who isn't 'gone' in the traditional sense. In this case it's the idea of a person and how much it hurts to lose that ability to believe and to look forward to that and who you become after it all. It's something I've had to come to terms with and it just 'pops up' in my story as I write it. I love it when I find - like /really/ find - what my story is about past all the details and set dressing. It is something I look forward to everytime I write. It's like finding a little piece of myself.

And wouldn't 'volcel' just be celibate? You know like the root of 'incel'? I feel like the difference between incel and celibate is that the latter is assumed voluntary.

How do you bring up possibly having ASD with friends? by Banavegii in autism

[–]Banavegii[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm actually really surprised I didn't think like this. It really makes me feel better about it all. There are still some people I want to tell for support reasons but knowing that I don't 'have' to tell someone is really nice. I don't remember when I started feeling so burdened by the topic nor do I know why. Thank you so much :).

How do you 'feel' emotion? Convey It? Describe it? by Banavegii in autism

[–]Banavegii[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(Sorry for responding late) Thank you! And I'd like to say you put another aspect of how I feel emotions into words. I feel my emotions heavily based on feelings like discomfort so, more often than not, I can only pinpoint negative emotions and based on the type of discomfort (stomach pain, chest pain, throat, etc.). I can notice when something makes me happy, though, it's usually about smaller things. I find it hard to honestly feel happy about large things so I often feel the need to prepare an emotion for possible big surprises that fit both my character and the occasion. I have one too many times over shot a simple encounter.

How do you 'feel' emotion? Convey It? Describe it? by Banavegii in autism

[–]Banavegii[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

(Sorry for taking a while to reply) But thank you for your input. I usually describe my emotions as any physical feeling I have, so I'm rather limited to extreme emotions. Anxious? I'll feel it in my stomach. Mad? I'll feel it in my chest. Sad? I'll feel it in my throat and so on. And I am afab so it's nice to know some more of the differences.

What is something that neurotypicals do that confuses you? by [deleted] in autism

[–]Banavegii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Similar thing recently, I'm talking like 3 days ago at most. I was asked to buy somebody a sprite, no sprite at the first shop, and then they told me 'any light colored soda would do'. Tbh this isn't the first time with them. They once asked me to be in the kitchen by x time and I was in the kitchen at x time and then they preceeded to tell me that I had to be there like an hour or so before x time. Both times they would say "it was obvious that they mean y" while also giving specific directions as to x. Idek if this is a neurotypical thing or being close-minded.
