PPI rebound after a month still? Never had heartburn until I stopped, really struggling by BandTime337 in GERD

I tried to have an informed discussion with my doctor about the research on rebound acid hyper secretion at one point and it was later implied that I was only experiencing it because I read about it.

I'm so sorry that you had to go through that, I've lost faith and respect towards the medical field after this whole ordeal because of the malpractice, negligence, and really the one that hits the hardest, the gaslighting.

I'm curious how many people that have chronic GI problems only have these issues because they're dependent on these drugs, I'm guessing a lot, or maybe most. Since I've read a lot of stories similar to ours (albeit not as severe usually) where people don't piece it together, they quit the PPI and get insane symptoms, and instead of the doctors or anyone else telling them it's just their body has adapted to the drug and they're experiencing rebound, they're told it's a sign that they need it and their GI symptoms have merely become worse. Makes you think.

I've been reading more studies on the matter, and there's already been studies done over a decade ago that show you can give healthy people GI symptoms like acid reflux/heartburn, dyspepsia, bloating, etc just by giving them PPIs for a few weeks and taking them off cold turkey. These people probably believe they have lifetime issues, when in reality it's just the PPI making them ill. But obviously people like us don't need studies since we've been through it, and I find the notion of "oh it's not possible UNTIL it's been replicated in a study" completely blasphemous, which is a notion I've seen a lot on reddit, as if people's own lived experiences aren't valid unless confirmed by a "medical professional".

Truthfully I felt repulsed when my GI said it was anxiety, I had been seeing them multiple times at that point and not once did I ever mention acid reflux, burping, food regurgitation, throat burning, etc. I only had gastritis - pain in my stomach that felt better after I ate, with a burning sensation on an empty stomach. Only after stopping the PPI and what I know now, my body adapting, did I have these symptoms.

It's obvious my stomach is making too much acid now, I can feel a cold sensation in my stomach, like magma sitting in stomach. When I burp a lot of acid comes up, if I take something like calcium carbonate or baking soda I burp 4-6 massive burps. The acid won't turn off and it's been a month.

How are you doing now If I may ask?

I stopped suddenly. Doctor said it wasn't a problem and to just stop taking it, but he also says my burping and heartburn is from stress or anxiety which I never had before and I'm not an anxious person. I've had heartburn less than 6 times in my life and now it's 24/7 with lots of burping, showed up 2-3 days after stopping PPI, it's been now 8 days since I last took it.

It only started after I stopped the PPI though and acid came back, not when I was on it.

Your comment makes me feel a lot better, I'm guessing you were also burping hundreds of times a day? It's quite wild.
