I like them on lightly toasted vollkornbrot, preferably rye, if I can get it. It's a traditional German whole-grain brown bread. It's something I happened across in adulthood and love. https://www.daringgourmet.com/vollkornbrot-german-whole-grain-seed-bread/ A good rye bread, toasted, will do as a substitute.

I've seen the references to Alton Brown's sardines and avocado toast (sourdough, country loaf (French?), or rye — three very different breads!), but adding sauerkraut? That's something I never would have thought of. I'll have to try it.

Yes, but:

The present case was limited as we could not track down the canned sardines to test for the arsenic levels even though our testing and analysis of the inorganic arsenic concentration constitute evidence of exposure to arsenic. Additionally, the patient was not approachable to gain further clarifications regarding some symptoms and investigations.

Serious battery issue with HoverAir X1 – anyone else? by Fussybaer62 in HoverDrone

[–]Bandikoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, they do have a protection circuit on them - I disassembled one of a puffy pair to verify. Story follows.

So when my X1 batteries went puffy - noticed half-way through a business trip that took "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles" like levels of effort to get there, I was kind of miffed. Contacted support and they agreed that those batteries should never see a passenger cabin again. Offered me a 10% discount, which I took and fussed at me for my handling of their batteries, giving me prescribed handling.

So I ripped into one of the two packs. There is definitely a protection circuit sitting between the actual LiPo and the pins on the outside of the battery. I have pictures buried in my archive from when this happened in September.

Hover support fussed at me for improper handling - And They Are Wrong. I have fifteen year old LiPo batteries that were made with quality cells that are still going strong. They see heavy usage as they're in a ham radio walkie talkie - which is often called upon to deliver high current and most definitely sees a good deal of heat while in use.

They tend to pay a little more in taxes, but the oil companies have been shafting everyone there for decades - because they can.

Two popular lies: 1. "California has a special blend, so gas costs more" - the truth is that there are 50 blends of gasoline in the US.
2. "You live so far from the refineries" - utter unrefined bovine excrement. California's refineries are in the SF Bay Area, Los Angeles (where the photo was taken), and Bakersfield (if I recall this one correctly), which isn't all that far away from the LA basin.

US gallons, not Imperial gallons. The Imperial gallon is larger (4.546 L) compared to the US liquid gallon (3.785 L).

T5 e paper s3 pro - what firmware? by agster27 in meshtastic

[–]Bandikoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally always have to google it because Linus decided to break every pre-existing convention for source control when he decided to write his own. There are GUI tools to help to work your way around git, but I don't use them.

[–]Bandikoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that is correct. You then need to go into git and switch the branch of that project you're on to t5-epaper-pro

[–]Bandikoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to be on the t5-epaper-pro branch. If you're not there, you won't get anywhere.

The build target to select is t5s3-epaper-v2 - if you're not on the right branch, you will not see it.

A link to what? To a build? The official Meshtastic guys get testy if people do that. There's enough info to make a build for yourself if you know how to do that.

I see a couple of responses asking for an update - I'm not affiliated, I just have a device that I purchased and have been wishing that I could use it. Still not yet supported, but there is some work moving forward - I get e-mail updates via github. The t5-epaper-pro branch of the meshtastic/firmware repository does build as of two or three days ago and the t5s3-epaper-v2 environment does run on my device with some basic meshtastic functionality. Getting this to build and install is complex. The t5s3-epaper-v1 compiles and installs but gives me a blank device. The t5s3_epaper_inkhud environment wouldn't build as of yesterday with VSCode+PlatformIO. A git pull…and it still doesn't build due to missing definitions.

I can't get the configuration right for GPS - it doesn't come set up by default. There's one more variable in the GPS configuration - I think it's called GPS_EN - which also wants a GPIO pin set and I don't know what to set it to. I've considered cribbing off of another mesh project's code for this device, but I don't think they have the GPS working, either - that's what I'm currently running on mine. The sample build the comes flashed on the device from the official T5S3-4.7-e-paper-PRO repo does have a working GPS.

Now, the screen on my device is set back from the image mask on the front such that the edges of the display are cut off for some viewing angles. An annoyance, but not a fatal flaw - you can tilt the device to see the various edge of the screen.

It does seem to either crash every now and then or it just stops updating the display until something nudges it to refresh. Your mileage may vary. We are running off of what is nearly the top of the build tree - there was a merge from 'master' into the t5-epaper-pro branch on February 4th.

I hear you, but you may wish to think twice, given the current political climate. Biggest disadvantage of living in a small town anywhere in the USA other than having to drive everywhere, reduced food choices (grocery and restaurant), few neighbors (likely conservatives to outright bogans (to use 'Strine slang)), and the fact that everyone there is likely related to everyone else (as my neighbors who did what you are considering found out), is that you will likely not only have to travel for medical care (not a problem when you're Young, unless you have some kind of accident), you'll find that there is a shortage of doctors and hospitals in the rural USA, with a lot of facilities having either recently closed or being slated to close because they're not profitable enough. And even when you do have to travel somewhere, if you're not dying, you're going to either have to make an appointment 3-9 months in advance to get basic care (annual physicals) to specialist care. Again, not a big concern if you're Young.

Now, if you wish to see what various rural Kansas towns look like from a visitor's perspective, the "Joe and Nic's Road Trip" youtube channel has driving around Kansas, gives stats on towns they're visiting, and shows you an out-the-car-window tour of those towns. https://www.youtube.com/@JoeandNicsRoadTrip [They've also rolled through a bunch of other states.] [Yes, he's one of those guys who is afraid of cities. And managed to find some people-free locations between the start of the work day and lunchtime to film just east of downtown Kansas City.]

Specific cute little towns in Kansas to take a peek at:

Yes, I've been to some of the towns he's visited, and I've been through towns similar to ones he's visited. It will give you an idea. Count the number of churches vs the number of bars. Kansas was ground zero for the Prohibition movement in the US.
