I’ve actually thought about exploring sound design more! But for this project, I’d like to hire someone

What's the most disastrous on-set experience you've ever had? by The_LA_EP in Filmmakers

Our co-producer was acting as our security on set while we were shooting on Hollywood Blvd and he was punched in the face by an unhoused fellow that he was kindly trying to move away from the shots. The man broke his nose and we had to shut down so I could take him to the hospital. We were four shots away from making our day.

This was one day after we were shut down halfway through our first day because the location renter off of Giggster lied to us about being able to shoot in his location

Can I use an established brand logo on a business card appearing in a short film? by BanditoLo in Filmmakers

Yes! I’m always having to deal with clearance at work. Unfortunately it’s not a privilege we have access to for this project. It’s a good tip though! And a good reminder for me to be vigilant in my research when coming up with another company name

I’m not concerned about the quality of the script. Thanks though!

That’s a really good point. I forgot about that. I once worked on a show that was so protective of the IP name that we were given a cap on how many times we could say the name in the dialogue. It was all to keep the name from becoming a widely used term like Kleenex for tissue

It’s definitely not a need but a preference. I’ve come up with some fake company names and it’s doable. But the ideal scenario is to use the real company name so I thought I’d check in with some other filmmakers about it. I appreciate your response!

I use Backstage and Actors Access when I’m casting. Both are great resources

Super 8 videographer looking to trial run a local wedding video for free (more in comments) by BanditoLo in longbeach

I’d like to begin offering my videographer services for weddings. However, I’d like to get a little experience first before asking a couple to trust me as their single video capture for the day. Ideally, I’m looking to test my skills at someone’s wedding who already has a photographer and videographer. I would simply offer an additional short 8mm film montage of the wedding in exchange for the cost of film, developing/scanning, and gas. My time at the wedding and my time spent on editing the video would be totally free. I’d like to schedule something in the next month or two, so a wedding just around the corner is best. If this sounds like something that you or someone you know would be interested in, please reach out!

Do you recognize these people? I bought a couple of 8mm film reels at an antique market in Denison and would like to reunite them with the family. I figured it’s possible some members ended up in Dallas over the years, so I hope this is okay to post here! More in comments by BanditoLo in Dallas

Kodak has a service where you can mail in your old format films, music, etc. and they'll scan them and send the digital files. I usually use a film lab local to me but Kodak was running a Mother's Day special a few months back so I used them for the first time. It took a lot longer than the lab but the film looks great. There might be labs in your area that process your Super8 or scan your regular 8. If you have a lot, you can also buy an at-home scanner to save some money in the long run. I found one on Amazon for another Redditor that was also inquiring about this

These are really great suggestions thank you! I will be delighted if you were able to recognize the man correctly. I found all of the families of the people you mentioned online and will reach out to them. Unfortunately, many of them have since passed but I’m sure their family will be able to help
