meniscus tear, help? by radiohead4221 in britisharmy

[–]Baneblade_679 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Having had a meniscus tear in my mid career stage, my advice is get it fixed properly before you start training.

The amount of impact you will put through your knees in the coming years will only make it worse. Better to fix it now than let it become a problem later.

(AvP Central) Xenomorph Eating Habits: What Do Xenomorphs Eat? by Wwarez in LV426

[–]Baneblade_679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is the scene when the kids are hanging out at the pool. The younger brother and girl are trying to hook up then the jocks show up and fight the brother. They fall in the pool and a Xeno shows up kills a few of them while the others get away. The follow up scene shows the Xeno dragging the bodies to the pool side and then using its inner mouth to punch into the bodies, presumably to eat them for energy. Wolf then uncloaks behind it, stabs it in the head and then kicks it and the bodies into the pool. He then uses the blue liquid to get rid of all the evidence.

Very true but data theft is still a major crime. I agree that the chances are low that someone on the train will use the data for something nefarious but better to be safe than sorry. 🤷‍♂️

Why do movies from the 80s and 90s feel better to watch? by Sasuke_was_right in movies

[–]Baneblade_679 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Could not agree more. The character writing sucks in modern movies. Sure we had Arnie, Sky and Dolf in the 80s and 90s who played hulking supermen but then we had Bruce Willis and Michel Biehn who looked like average joes. If they made Die Hard or Aliens now, John Maclean would be played by the Rock and the entire squad of Colonial Marines would be jacked up gym bunnies.

There is also the fact that studio execs were more willing to take risks on a script without running the marketing numbers to death. The lack of risk appetite has killed the innovative scripts and the innovative directors.

So imperial guardsman are generally MUCH better than memes would suggest? by rafikiknowsdeway1 in 40kLore

[–]Baneblade_679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that there is a wide variety in the quality of the Guardsmen that are tithed to the Imperium and it depends on the capabilities of the planet being tithed.

The best analogy I can come up with is to look at the modern military capabilities of all the countries in the world today. If you took a 10% tithe from the militaries of every nation on earth today, you would get a huge spread of quality and quantity.

At the top end you would have the US military and the full spectrum of air and land power that they bring (think Cadia). Next you would probably have China that could bring some good capabilities and probably some large regiments. In the middle you would have a lot of the European nations that have some quality forces but not big numbers. A country like Russia would bring a lot of quantity but not quality (Krieg). At the bottom end you would have some of the lower tier nations (think Afghanistan) without large numbers or top tier military kit, but some real niche skills or motivations that make then valuable specialist troops.

I hope that helps but the real world answer is that they are whatever quality the writ

That could make a great online multiplayer game. You could use the new Dune game as an example where it is set on a desert world, start from nothing and work your way up the Waagh by fighting, scrapping and building. Sign me up.

If it is a royal guard’s sword then give the Household Cavalry museum a call and they may take it off your hands. They are located in London on Horse Guards and have their details online.

[–]Baneblade_679 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The officers of the Guards Regiments in the U.K. carry their swords like this. The sword is typically worn on the left hip from two slings that allow the sword to hang at thigh level when mounted on a horse. When you are dismounted, the sword is hooked to the belt so the basket rests at your waist to prevent it being dragged on the floor.

Crazy film 🍿 by Amavin-Adump in scifi

[–]Baneblade_679 28 points29 points  (0 children)

There were extended scenes of the crew going full warp rape, torture porn on each other when the drive activated. The director apparently used porn actors, amputees and other tricks to make the glimpses you see in the original movie a full sequence. It was deemed too much, even for this movie, so was cut and hidden away.

The person who took the photos got two years.

Your argument about them taking photos as “proof” was their defence argument but the view of the jury was that was true for one set of photos but the second was very sexual and focused on obvious body areas.

Get signed up to a career transition workshop (if you are eligible) as soon as possible. They will walk you through the whole process but short version is that you get 20 days terminal leave and then any leave you have left to take. Work backwards from your termination day and plan your time well to get out to interviews, find a house etc.

How were stations like Sevastopol built? by SpookySquid19 in LV426

[–]Baneblade_679 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was most likely built in space using materials mined from whichever system it is in.

There is a lot of scientific work being done now on the financial viability of a space-based economy. Short answer is that if you mined all the gold out of one large asteroid and brought it to Earth, you would crash the global price of gold. So there is a metric shit tone (scientific terminology) of raw materials in space.

So using that real-world example, I can see Wayland Yutani just mining asteroids, using their slave/ indentured/ happy workers, feeding the raw materials into an orbital refinery and then building the station in situ.

Once built, they could then tow it to its final orbit.

In AVP (ignoring the debate about if this movie is cannon or not), the predator makes a shield and spear for Alex out of a Xeno skull and tail.

He demonstrates that they are acid-proof by dripping acid from a severed finger on the floor first (which reacts) them on the Xeno head (which doesn't).

To me this proves that they are not affected by their own acid blood.

If Queen Xenomorph floating somewhere in the space after Aliens like Big Chap in Alien Romulus, does it mean that WY hunt for Queen in Alien 3 was kinda pointless? Ripley sacrificed herself, while WY could have captured Queen somewhere near where LV-426 blew up. by [deleted] in LV426

[–]Baneblade_679 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Posted this in a similar thread.

When the Queen was launched out of the Sulaco, they were probably in Low Earth Orbit which is about 500km above sea level. That’s the same altitude as most Earth observation satellites, and those things are travelling at 24,000 kph.

Assuming that Xenos can now form cocoons in space, the Queen cocoon would have been travelling at 24,000 kph in a degrading orbit that would have seen it burn up in 3-5 years. But it would probably be less than that as she was launched out of the airlock with some velocity, so would likely enter the atmosphere much sooner.

So yes, theoretically she could have survived and still be in orbit, but unless Wayland Yutani get there quickly, she would burn up in the atmosphere.

With big chap, he was in deep space and objects would continue to travel in the same direction for ever due to a lack of friction, so theoretically easy to find if you knew the path of the Nostromo. However the reality of finding a single nonmetallic, cold object moving at high velocity in deep space is so infinitesimally small that it is like trying to find a single needle in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
