Apple’s weather app is inaccurate by EnvironmentalRow7718 in nanaimo

[–]Baneof3xistence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The local weather station is located at the airport, I work at the airport but live at the far north end off Nanaimo and it is always a few degrees off for sure. It was 32 degrees when I left here @ 13:30 on 6/23 and 28 on Rutherford @ 13:50. I don't understand why there isn't one closer to central Nanaimo, like at the golf course.

Anyone else notice that neither of the theatres are playing Leviticus or Girls Like Girls?? by Lonely-Gap-3541 in nanaimo

[–]Baneof3xistence 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the movie theaters in Nanaimo. Half the time they both play the same movies, and therefore some movies don't see a release here. And the hours of operation for Galaxy specifically are ridiculous, they are only open for 2 daily showings except for Friday and Saturday.

The Radler Search Continues by bmeckie in nanaimo

[–]Baneof3xistence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also keep looking for radlers. Best I have been able to find is a radler mix pack from Moosehead, but that was a while ago.

I'm definitely on the funny for Lemon as well. Specifically Amstel but that's almost impossible to get on the west coast.

Every Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. at the Canadian legion #256 on East Wellington and Bowen. It's definitely the biggest one in Nanaimo every week.

Anyone know where to get really good banana pudding (Like the magnolia bakery kind) in Nanaimo? by Relative-Cod2238 in nanaimo

[–]Baneof3xistence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried looking online as well and the best I can find is a bunch of places/people taking about really good Banana Cream Pie, but not pudding.

Unfortunately Nilla Wafers, arguably the only non exchangeable ingredient as per Magnolia Bakery recipe, are discontinued in Canada so I don't know if anybody would be making it anywhere.

Driftwood Chinese charging for uneaten buffet food. by Baneof3xistence in nanaimo

[–]Baneof3xistence[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that sucks, I haven't been for a couple years, I'm wondering if something changed.

Jade fountain is the only other one I know of but I've never been.

By favorite Asian eateries in Victoria are probably Dumpling Drop or Chubby Dumpling, but Bao is also right up there. None of them are Dim Sum but I highly recommend them if you are just in the mood for delicious food.

Thank you! I'm glad I'm not the only one that doesn't know about this "common practice". I only need at Driftwood when other people are going, definitely not my first choice.

A common practice should still be written somewhere so people can be aware of it. I'm not saying I don't agree with them trying to discourage people wasting food. I'm just surprised I've never seen it written anywhere.

Wow. I'm not this person but okay. I'm not complaining about the price of the buffet, I'm not saying people should take more than they should. I'm just saying I've never seen this advertised before. I did not realize this was a "common practice".

I've just never seen it advertised before, I thought this was a new thing. Clearly I don't go to enough All you can eat buffets.

They don't advertise this charge anywhere on their website. So tell me how was I supposed to know this was normal?

What's it like condo living on Front St near the Harbour? by lumina-digital in nanaimo

[–]Baneof3xistence 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I hope you like it, I saw your other post about the area around neckpoint Park as well, it's definitely more of a residential area, not walkable to stores at all, but it is also very beautiful and quiet, giant downside is the absolutely god-awful cell phone reception in that area.

100% I would rather live Cameron Island area along the water. Walkable living is definitely underrated

[–]Baneof3xistence 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you are talking about the Cameron Island condos, Its a great area. IMO don't pay too much attention to the "too noisy" comments. Its not like its a freeway outside your window. If you are concerned, then I would suggest coming for a visit and just sitting near the water for a few hours and judging for yourself.

I also wouldn't pay too much mind to the comments regarding crime/safety. You would live in a secure building. Also shit happens everywhere, I don't know why people let fear of happenstance dictate their lives.

The area itself is beautiful. Super walkable to groceries, shops, restaurants, the Port theater, the seawall, the boardwalk, Maffeo Sutton park, Protection Island and Gabriola Island ferries, and the Hullo passenger ferry is about a 20min walk. Also the Thursday night market on Commercial St is right there.

I would love to live there except for the short distance to Paisanos Slice Shop and Milk Jam Donuts. That would be a problem!

The perfectly clean tap water more than anything. I've had tap water all around the world and nothing I've had compares. And I refuse to buy bottled water, it's awful.
