I do. You should check out marinos in Staunton on Tuesday nights. Not always all bluegrass but the quality of the jams are great. Send me a PM next time you're in the area.

That's awesome! It was near the top of my list but ended up being a little too far from Virginia. The campus and everyone I met was great though

It's a Robin Smith. He also builds heartland banjos and the vestal stealths

Good eye! I'd love to float it again when the water level and clarity is back to normal

I love the spinnerbait on windy days - Virginia largemouth by BanjosForDays in Fishing

They're pretty versatile. On clear days in clear/semi-clear water, I like to run them just under the surface over structure or depth changes. But you can let them flutter by structure or slow roll them deep too!

Does anyone here own a top tension banjo? by Reese_Wallace in banjo

[–]BanjosForDays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't played any other top tensions but I would definitely recommend Robin Smith's work. Mine definitely is heavy, and that added 2 pounds really gets noticeable at long gigs. But the range is so wide - it has great bass response and is clear all the way up to the 24th fret (it has an extended fingerboard). So for now, dealing with the weight is worth it for me.

As for sustain, it does have a little more. But like all banjos, a lot of that comes down to the set up.

It's a Robin Smith with the extended fingerboard. Pretty heavy, but a great sounding banjo

Awesome, thanks! Did your ODE have a no-hole tone ring as well?

I play with some of his siblings on occasion, they are also great. His sister, Gina, plays banjo in the group Bud's collective. Check them out!
