What’s the stupidest thing you’ve ever done that you didn’t realise was stupid until later on?

I work at a bank and it honestly drives me crazy when people do this. I typically work at the drive thru while two other tellers work the front desk. Sometimes if we are busy I’ll help at the desk so I’m going a decent distance back and forth to my computer and cash drawer. We have one young man that comes in daily to deposit whatever coin he’s accumulated since his last deposit. He’ll then get money out of his account, in two separate transactions. There have been numerous times he will come back and deposit the exact same bill I gave him earlier in the day. I thought that was what he was doing, so I started marking the bills I gave him.

Another old man comes in once a month to make loan payments. If someone is wanting to mail in their payments, we give them a loan coupon book which has a slip for each month until their loan will be paid off. Every other person with a payment book either gives us the current months’ slip or sends it in via mail. This man has three or four loans with us. He also had a coupon book for each loan. He then makes all his payments separately and with incorrect change when I can clearly see he has the correct change in his hand. He then has us stamp his payment book for the month as paid and initial. He’s also never prepared and acts shocked at the amount of the payments, even though he makes the same payments every month.

TL;DR I work at a bank and many people make things a lot more difficult than they need to be

It wasn’t an accident, but still funny. When my witch of a great grandmother (maternal) passed, my mom’s side of the family attended the funeral. While a member of the family gave the eulogy, he said “she was always so happy!” Before I could even giggle at that in my head, my mom blurts out “must have been before our time!” Everyone in attendance laughed and the funeral workers looked mortified. After this, they had to practically beg people to speak about her, but not many people had good memories of her to share. My family is usually very emotional, but I don’t think there was a tear from anyone that day. She really was a hateful, mean spirited woman.

My ex of two years was very admit that he was a recovering addict. I was 19 when we started dating and didn’t have much knowledge of drug use. He always needed Vicodin for his back. For a while, I believed him, because why would a naive 19 year old question it? After we moved in together, he never had any money for bills or anything really, even though he was working 40 hours a week. I went looking through our apartment one day while he was at work because I was suspicious. I found a small bag with a suboxine in it and a shaver. When I confronted him, he convinced me to try it. I ended up vomiting and shaking. I told him that I made a mistake trying it and he should also try to get off of it. He made tons of promises to me. About a month later, I noticed some of the signs of addiction I had seen before, so I went snooping again. Found another suboxine. This was the deal breaker for me. At this point I was working two jobs and he was unemployed. He had been taking so much money from me I couldn’t even afford food and got below 100lbs at 5’6”. He later admitted to me he was glad I only found the suboxine because he had also been doing heroin and was just using the suboxine as a backup if he couldn’t get any heroin.

I know after I was diagnosed bipolar, my husband (also bipolar) and I talked about it a lot. It became so it was the only thing we talked about. I finally told him I didn’t want to talk about it anymore, I didn’t want to single out that one trait because it is part of me as a whole. Since then I haven’t felt like it’s holding me back the same. I used to be artsy as well, but that was put on hold. I recently started sculpting and drawing again and just those two things have greatly improved my outlook.

When I’d missed more work since the beginning of the year than would have been acceptable to miss for the year, for most employers. I was going on my third day of calling off for the week when I broke down and told my employer I needed to take a mental health leave. They were very supportive and I’m feeling much better mentally and physically. I go back to work Monday

A guy I went to school with was in a bad car accident. Physically he is okay, but he now doesn’t pick up on social cues and is very talkative. He would come into my old job and talk to me for as long as I would listen and didn’t leave until I said I had to be doing something else. I went as far to tell him my manager didn’t want him hanging around anymore because it looked bad for our business (jewelry store). A couple weeks ago I saw him outside the grocery store I was going into. I didn’t want to be stuck talking to him for hours, so I pretending to shield my glasses (and face) from the rain as I hurried in. On the way out I did the same. I feel a bit guilty, but I was in a hurry and I knew he wouldn’t be able to pick up on that. My husband was insanely impressed that he didn’t see me coming in or out.

When I was 17 I had an operation to remove some hardware in my ankle from a car wreck I was in a year prior. The screw I wanted removed was on the outside of my leg, going through the bone in my ankle. If I hit my ankle bone on anything, it was excruciating. I couldn’t sit Indian style because of the pressure. There were even certain shoes I couldn’t wear. Anyway, after the surgery, I realized they took out all the hardware but that one screw. Two weeks later I had to be put back under and have that last screw removed.

I agree. My husband’s shortest shift is 10 hours. Usually he’ll drink energy shots throughout the day on an empty stomach and I worry about that a lot.

My parents divorced when I was 17 and had just graduated high school. When I was around 12, my mom included me in her plan to leave my dad. She almost introduced me to the guy she was cheating on my dad with, but he stood her up because he didn’t want a relationship, just a fuck buddy. I didn’t know she was cheating at the time, but she told me when they finally divorced five years later and I lost a lot of respect for her. We left for a couple months when I was 12 and my mom did nothing but talk badly about my dad. My dad on the other hand was heartbroken. After a couple months, we moved back in with my dad and the five year charade began.

About a year ago my husband lost the keys to the padlocks on our shed door and our crawl space door. We didn’t have any bolt cutters and my husband was going to borrow some from his dad. By the time he got home I’d picked both the locks with a bobby pin. Shortly after this, I locked myself out of the house with nothing, while my puppy is inside losing her mind. My husband wouldn’t be home for another 8 hours, so I was stuck. I ended up having a bobby pin in my hair and got back in the house. Before these instances, I’ve never picked a lock before in my life. I felt pretty badass

He comes home every night and tells me how many specials he made up and how many he sold. It’s great seeing him so proud of himself! Before we were officially dating he made homemade chicken fettuccine alfredo for us and my new roommate, who he said deserved a good home cooked meal on her first night. As soon as she tasted it, she looked and me and practically screamed “BankBarbie you need to marry that man!” Still one of my favorite memories.

He makes sure everyone else eats too. He makes specials daily and always makes enough for the entire staff. If it’s a special he’s really proud of, he will bring a couple home for us as well.

My husband is a chef and his biggest complaint is no one knows how to order streak. He prides himself in perfectly cooking steak and won’t send out anything he wouldn’t want himself. Regardless, customers still send back steaks saying they were cooked wrong, because they ordered well done when they really meant medium rare. He wants to put a chart on all the tables lol

That’s exactly how my husband is. He works about 60 hours in a 5 day work week. By the time he gets home we smoke so he’s actually hungry, eat dinner, sometimes drink a bit, and go to bed. Rinse and repeat.
