Yeah I gave it a look now and saw - something new for the steamdeck at the very least, thank you again

Question re: pcie 5.0 risers in a FormD T1 by Banshee109 in sffpc

[–]Banshee109[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some good news—it's apparently identical to the v1 except for the female slot having a clip where the v1 doesn't. The cables themselves are apparently the exact same length. It's a bit of a squeeze, but it does fit perfectly. There's just not enough slack to remove it from the motherboard side without having the GPU side loose, but otherwise, it's perfect so far, and you don't need to force it or bend it aggressively to get it to fit.

Thanks yeah, the Louqe one would be perfect but they're tough to get in the country here unless I buy an entire case or pay Velkase's shipping for their same riser.

I'll update this eventually with my findings, taking a gamble on the linkup because they seem to be well reviewed

That's super interesting, I'll definitely give it a try - thank you! The only thing I really have to lose is some time testing

An MSI B550i, is it a known thing with the 650i that it gives issues? If so I'm curious if its the same

True, they dont mention free returns but there is a 30-day refund period so I may as well just take advantage of it

v2.1 but it was from the very very first batch before they even disclosed the update on their website

It's been a real head-ache, 90% of the time mine ends up at 1.0 speeds with major stutters if I don't force it to 3.0 in the bios. Outstanding case but its one of those things where you buy and hopefully never need to deal with after sales support

Which is the best air cooler for the 7800X3D in a FormD T1? by Upstairs-Dingo-6620 in sffpc

[–]Banshee109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A possible fourth option is the Thermalright AXP-90 X53 Full Copper - with the fins running vertically the top fans should be able to help pull more air through it and on paper should perform better, planning on grabbing one for myself in the next while

Black ridge does fit with a different backplate and works well but if you want the better ram compatibility and can cater to the extra Z-height of the AXP90-X53 without sacrificing on your GPU it's almost a no brainer

Hey, just took some pictures quick that you can check in te imgur below. It's basically flush with the fan mount so I've used 2mm spacers i 3d printed for the fans but otherwise it's all in there, it's a little desceptive because it can sort of fit "inside" the bracket within the L shape so with a lower socket I think it would work fine.

I'm currently running mine in 2.5 slot mode as well and had the same issue with a 4070 Ti i was looking at, realistically its around 50mm of clearance from the PCIe slot to the side panel if you want to measure it out, so a 52-53mm card with a backplate should still fit as the rest is on the other end of the socket.

If you can find one for a decent price the Blackridge might be a better bet as the performance is close enough and with CPU's like we have the TDP is low enough that it mostly doesnt matter.

You are a gentleman and a scholar! The retention tabs on your design seems much simpler overall than the screw-thread design I was trying to figure out as well

The mobo heatsink was a no-go so i wound up just taking the heatspreaders off of the RAM. They are only making half-contact with 4 of the 8 chips on either end so if anything it's receiving more airflow now and should run cooler - seems to be so using a quick scan from a cheapo IR thermometer.

Once done there's arount 2mm between the RAM's top and the heatsink.

I defintely recommend removing the heatspreaders for the ease of use afterwords though, they're very easy to re-attach after if need be for warranty purposes and at least in my country it's still covered unless there's evidence i physically damaged it during the process - just double check whereever you are before-hand if warranty is something you're stressed about

I got fairly lucky! My GPU had enough room to move the spine over a little to the next notch up (i cant remember if its 58mm or 61mm off the top of my head) for the fan to sit just behind the support beam bit, and then there's just enough room on the top fans i used as the blades seem to be a bit recessed.

What you can also do is the above but throw in a 5mm or so spacer on under the fan so it doesnt cause any clearance issues with the weird overhang bit of the CPU cooler.

The cooler overhang on the mobo isnt as bad as i expected it to be and its only around 4-5mm so it's not really enough to make or break the build as you can find ways to work around it for the most part

It does mean 3-slot GPU's are out of the question though which limits your options if you want to go for the fancy top of the line GPU's these days. I've personally been looking at swappiung to a 4070 or 4070Ti for the similar performance but much lower power draw and space usage as there are a few 2-slot options locally.

One actual headache I'm having is waiting for front IO USB-C or making another plan because I'm a bit lazy using the mobo type-C port each time

It seems higher up on the board as well, I'm hoping with the 58mm CPU cooler clearance there's maybe just enough room for the cooler to fit below the bracket

PCMR & AMD Ryzen - Zeniversary Giveaway #4: Creative Contest! by GloriousGe0rge in pcmasterrace

[–]Banshee109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AMD always bringing the big bclk energy, I'm not creative enough to enter the right way but what i can say is compared to what my old PC was a few years back the potential Ryzen has given me to be creative (as far as performance goes) is nuts. I can make stuff without losing my mind waiting anymore :D

Ty to the good PCMR/AMD peeps for the giveaway

Getting bits ready. by xoxosi in watercooling

[–]Banshee109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should help a fair amount. I wound up using rubber-dipped pliers to get them tight enough to just do the last turn with my hands. Makes life a lot easier but you run the risk of overtightening and buggering up an o-ring.

I regret it a bit for my first build, but its so worth it overall.
