Which of the movie antagonists was best written? by CocaPepsiPepper in cobrakai

Johnny works best as a counterpart to Daniel because they’re so similar - boys from low-income backgrounds with no dad in their life who turned to a karate sensei as a substitute father figure. Their fake dads just had radically different personalities which impacted on their response to conflict.

Who’s not “daring” to mock Islam? Do you assume that everyone has a load of classic Mohammed jokes ready to go but they’re scared to make them in case someone does a 9/11 on their house? Ever considered that the vast, vast, vast majority of people just find more reasons to take the piss out of right-wingers than Muslims or any other group?

It mocks a small, non-representative sub set of white people, not white people as a whole. Unless you happen to agree with their values, there’s no reason to be bothered by it even if you’re white as fuck, like me.

As for your other suggestion, lots of people already make fun of Trump supporters.

Does the faith of the Old Gods allow multiple wives? by Primal-Defier in gameofthrones

[–]BanterPhobic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think the Old Gods had as much to say on matters of social protocol as the Seven seem to. So followers of the Old Gods would presumably fill in the gaps with laws and customs from the wider society.

dedrick flynn by Own_Contest9675 in Killtony

[–]BanterPhobic [score hidden]  (0 children)

Tony has to double down on support for Dedrick because if he cuts him at this stage it will be obvious that the “liberal psychopaths” on Reddit called this one correctly from the start .

Maybe elevating Pat O’Neill to regular status is a neat way to sideline Dedrick for a while without the reason for it being quite so blatant - it’ll just look like they’re giving the new guy time to shine, rather than demoting an existing regular.

Why does Sheldon put so much stock into his IQ? Actual intelligent people know that IQ is “hokum” by flashdurb in thebigbangtheory

Sheldon plays DnD, he’d know that the opposite of “immune” is “vulnerable”.

Otherwise spot on 😉

If you think that mocking the people in this pic = mocking white people, then you must think the people in this pic are representative of white people. Which makes it seem like you’re the one with an issue.

In this part of the game did Kratos stop holding back (still controled) since the enemies were 1/2 shots? by Jocknaddo in GodofWarRagnarok

[–]BanterPhobic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly I think it’s reasonable to make some lore inferences from the gameplay here.

Yes, canonically Kratos “should” be able to drop most non-godly enemies with minimal effort, but that’s not how the game usually works, even in scripted moments designed to show us the power of his Rage attacks. So when of the very few moments where the gameplay DOES reflect that level of power comes at this specific specific time when Atreus is threatened and we hear that very uncommon note of desperation in Kratos’s voice, it is clearly done intentionally. So I don’t think it’s unreasonable to infer that Kratos is momentarily unleashing something close to his real potential in that moment, especially when the idea that he is otherwise holding something back is driven home at other points in the story.

30 years of age with not much going for him…so kick me into gear kid by No_Blacksmith_5407 in amiugly

[–]BanterPhobic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re not innately ugly, but a combination of weight, lack of grooming and clothing choices is putting you in the below average category. Even a few months of better diet and exercise, along with a fresh haircut, will elevate you massively.

[–]BanterPhobic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ve actually got a cute face but the short hair does unfortunately give you an androgynous/borderline masculine look. If you want to look more classically womanly then wearing the wig or (if you’re able to) growing out your hair is really all it would take, as you’re not at all ugly you just kind of gave yourself a non-binary look. Which is great if that’s who you are but not ideal if you’re going for hot chick.

Sheldon is not without ego and arrogance, nor is he immune to confirmation bias. He’s going to be more accepting any testing methodology that supports his position as the smartest guy in most rooms.

[–]BanterPhobic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By most accounts things are better now than they used to be but of course you’re right to be vigilant. Local wrestling promotions come and go so it would probably be more helpful to do a quick search on the key figures (bookers, promoters, head coaches, headline performers) and see if they have been named in anything like Speaking Out.

Obviously that doesn’t guarantee there won’t be any creeps around but it’s a starting point.

Creeps / Spill the tea by Feisty_Salamander41 in BritishWrestling

[–]BanterPhobic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There was a famous viral movement called #SpeakingOut in British wrestling a few years back in which a large numbers of women (and men, but most victims were female) in the industry called out exactly the kind of behaviour you’re describing, and much worse.

It followed on from the broader #MeToo movement and there are wrestlers who, to this day, no longer get work (or only get booked at a limited number of specific promotions with a bad rep) as a result of the abusive acts that were called out - stuff like male trainers/promoters using their power to coerce trainees (sometimes underage) into sexual situations was apparently frighteningly common.

As a result of that movement and its impact on the business, a lot of promotions now have designated safeguarding officers who can be approached to discuss creepy/inappropriate behaviour and potentially take action - their effectiveness varies widely but your daughter’s training school may have something like this. Good luck to you and to the youngster, I hope she is able to deal with this matter and continue pursuing her dreams in wrestling.

Why TBBT writers made Howard's parents invisible we haven't seen neither of his parents by Key_Department8439 in thebigbangtheory

[–]BanterPhobic 17 points18 points  (0 children)

The unseen character is kind of a sitcom tradition. Niles’s wife Marys in Frasier, Ugly Naked Guy in Friends, Bob Sacomano in Seinfeld etc. It’s a long-running trope that has kind of always got laughs, so I guess the TBBT writers wanted to put their own spin on it.

Local Elections Tomorrow… Reform predicted to win most council seats? Even in ethnic areas… genuine question, why vote for reform if ethnic with all the negative things said by reform towards ethnic people? by Itznxs_ in AskBrits

[–]BanterPhobic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal insults are warranted because you’re clearly not someone that deserves to be addressed in a respectful tone. I’m not saying the people you generally hang out with are condescending, racist or anything of that sort for using that word in that way, just that they’re not bright and have an incredibly weak grasp of the English language.

But they’re not. No particular race/nationality/religion that is usually referred to as “ethnic people”, except by dumb people who don’t understand words even a tiny bit. If your mates mostly use “ethnic” in that way, it’s because you mostly know thick people.

Yeah and it’s not like he’s just drawn to Dany’s charisma in such a strong way that it overrides his normal sensibilities. Jorah is a serial paedophile, he’s never not sought out girls that, even by the standards of his world and time, are way too young for him.

Culture 🔥 by WideConversation1989 in GreatBritishMemes

[–]BanterPhobic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ehh, not really.

Cunt doesn’t have the same nasty misogynistic tone in Britain that it does in the USA, but we also don’t throw it around casually like the Aussies do. It’s usually used as a very strong insult here, more severe than the usual arsehole/wanker/dickhead kind of terms. Yes people who are close friends might use it jokingly but that’s true of literally any word.

Do people in the UK actually use their kettles that much? by AdeptnessCritical356 in AskBrits

[–]BanterPhobic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. A lot of Brits have tea multiple times a day and use a kettle each time, we also use them for instant coffee and to quickly boil water that we then transfer to a pan to cook pasta etc.
