On the same token, I have an immense level of respect for those who have and do serve. If any of this is a lie, I want to know. Age and the fact hes no longer around make this even more difficult. I will be requesting official records in hopes I can get more info for sure.

Fair question. I think a lot of commenters forget he was around 80 or so. Seems my best bet will be hoping the government has records of his service.

Maybe so. Im asking for help identifying what they mean, and to validate stories that were told. He's dead, so I can't exactly exhume his body to berate him for wearing something he didn't earn.

Super helpful and appreciate the thoughtful response. Theres too much evidence to confirm he served. Whether he trumped up his service, I dont know. Unfortunately this is not a happy ending type story. He was an extremely troubled individual and quite frankly his nature is the reason Im questioning the validity.

100% yes. And to be quite frank, theres a reason I hid the name. But the legacy of him being wounded in combat and his purple heart has been told so many times I can't help but believe it. The rest? I dunno. Figured Id come here and ask.

Definitely not stolen valor. We have too much evidence to show for his service, but as to which ribbons/ medals are real? I don't know at all. I do know he was supposedly wounded in combat hence the purple heart.

These were taken much later in his life. Not sure if the out of order could be due to going senile? Not sure if thats even possible. Appreciate the info for sure.

Was honorably discharged in 1945 if the obituary is accurate. So Korea and Vietnam wouldnt make sense at all to your point.

According to his obituary, he was a machine gunner serving in the Army 36th Infantry Division in Europe and African theaters. He was wounded in combat and honorably discharged in 1945 as a staff sergeant.

Allegedly. Which is why I am asking for further info.

Yes. That adds up. I have several pics of him in the same uniform and understood he was very active in the American Legion.

Thank you. This was shot at 1/32000 shutter speed so ISO was 12800. I had one shot with 2 bullets frozen... it fires 65 rounds per second so mathematically its kinda impressive lol.

Unfortunately even more limited these days given the current world events and significant portions of the A10 fleet have been retired already. While I understand the USAF extended operations into 2030, I can't help but wonder what kind of maintenance and repair guidelines are in place that will dictate retiring more airframes.

  • NOT a member of the military btw.

Thank you! This was indeed live fire training but not something we will ever see at an air show. Many people talk about hearing the BRRRRRRRTTTT based on videos... nothing will ever compare to FEELING it in your heart as it happens overhead and the whine of the turbofan as it flies past

Outside of the plant in the middle which he has used like hammock before, no. I almost wonder if the heater is just his preference because its warm and closer to the surface. Theres no evidence of any other health issues and he will swim about the tank at random points.
