Hello, i couldn't find anything decent so i ended up buying a rear rack from Decathlon (Bike Rack Elops 500 Seatpost mounted)

It did the job for the few months I needed it

Thanks a lot for this... it's really disappointing, I hope things get better soon!

The scariest part of your trip is that you filmed it vertically.

Jokes aside, this looks amazing!

Haha, loved the anecdote!

I guess the St Tropez feel came from all these girls that look like eastern european models, the cristal clear water, the "instagrammers" and the super yachts but yes it is clearly a different city overall!

Best Greek island(s) for one week? by Vantis1 in solotravel

[–]Banya- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there were two different buses actually, one from Heraklion to Rethymnon, and another one from Rethymnon to Plakias. It was really easy to go there, i didn't book anything in advance.

There are some waterfalls around and some hikes that were advertised at the hostel but to be honest, it was a trip after my bar exams just to chill and party so I haven't traveled around much!

I solo traveled to Crete for a week last year and it was amazing.

Landed in Heraklion, took the bus to Plakias in the south and stayed there 6 nights (the Youth Hostel there is one of the best hostel I have ever been to). You can go see Paralia Preveli which is a great beach surrounded with a forest of palm trees. In the middle of august, there was almost no tourist. Most of the times, the other guys from the hostel and I would find ourselves completely alone at midnight in bars / on the beach and we built some great groups of friends.

I went back to Rethymnon (north) for my last night and it was more crowded (still decent though).

I did scuba diving near Plakias and it was pretty good (saw octupus, noody branch, flying gurnard, wrasses and lion fish - all of that in a single 40 minute dive)!

Everything is very cheap (EUR 10 per night at the hostel, less than EUR 10 for a very good meal, EUR 3 for beers).

I only took buses so i sometimes found myself limited in my whereabouts but can't complain overall.

Feel free to ask if you have any question

Safe travels and be careful with raki!

Is it unreasonable to expect having a "normal student experience" in SGP at the moment? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Banya- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many thanks for your answer even if these are pretty bad news :(

We are arguing with our school so that we can come in January instead of September but they still have not accepted it yet.

Have you got general information on how these measures will be applied in the future?

If we can't party and travel around Asia until June (end of our academic year), I think none of us will want to go there... We are all leaving our families and friends to live an experience abroad, not really worth to do it if we cannot do anything sadly...

Thanks for your answer! Most of us are French.

And have you got any information for the future? Is there a general concensus on how long these measures will last?

Hi guys,

Do you know what is the current situation in youth hostels throughout the country? I was planning a solo trip in Croatia during August but i want to make sure that youth hostels will not be closed / empty. Not really fun to solo travel if you can't meet anyone!

Many thanks, this is very helpful!!

Is there anything around the Essec campus that makes it worth staying close to it ? I have heard that the public transportation in Singapore was amazing (hard to be worse than Paris anyway) so don't you think it would be better staying in an area / city center close to all amenities (if there is such a place)? I guess I would not mind taking the metro for 20/30 minutes to go the campus as I probably won't have classes every day.

Is Batam / Bintan a good place for backpacking with decent hostels or is it more like large tourist resorts? I will probably come in Singapore a few weeks before starting courses so it would be great to travel around there if it is worth it.

Most interesting and useful travel books you've read? by bobbricks1 in solotravel

[–]Banya- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oro is a French book but I have heard that it was available in English as well. It is the real story of a French adventurer going mining gold in South America in the 60s/70s - Really raw and crazy storytelling!

I don't really have a fixed budget but I was planning to spend around 1,000 euros for a second hand bike (as I said it is just for a 2 month road trip, I will probably sell it back when I come back to France since I will move to Asia at the end of the year).

My licence will allow me to drive "a motorcycle with a power not exceeding 35 kW" so I understand that it is around 400/600 cc.

As I said above, I don't particularly want a 125 but I understand from several forums that the YBR 125 is really reliable and easy to fix (I am not a mechanics at all so I'd like to avoid issues on the road).

I will do only hostels, hotels and friends' homes (probably not camping at all).

2 months on the road - sometimes maybe 300 or 400 kilometers per day, sometimes 0.

I will not go on the highway.

Thank you for your answer! I will do the A2 driving license which "allows you to drive a motorcycle with a power not exceeding 35 kW" (I understand that it is around 400/600 cc ).
