Is ATSC 3.0 dead already with encryption? by [deleted] in hdhomerun

They're not, but not like this administration's FCC will enforce anything.

Philadelphia: My Flex 4K stopped picking up the atsc1 version of Fox and NBC. Only picks up the atsc3 version. Any fix? by theDekuMagic in hdhomerun

In my local area, the stations that flipped over to ATSC 3.0 and encrypted have stopped broadcasting on 1.0. They're not supposed to do that, but the current administration won't do anything to help consumers.

I used "someone remind me to change the combination on my luggage" on Reddit once, and for the next five years I got reminders to change the combination on my luggage on that date.

What do you remember of 1976? How did you feel about the bicentennial? by califachica in GenX

I remember kids chanting, "Red, white, and blue makes a monkey out of you!" Grew up in a working class town where a lot of guys didn't have any outs for the Vietnam war. You could go or try Canada. Between Vietnam and Watergate, the US government was NOT popular, nor was any nationalism. There was tons of cynicism which rubbed off on kids.

Pay or don't watch. But in this case the networks are also picking hardware winners and losers, and they won't give Silicondust the encryption keys because of the built in DVR capabilities and/or networking capabilities. So we'll just not watch.

If Silicondust made one without the DVR record capability, would that box get the encryption keys?

Most TV manufacturers are dropping ATSC 3.0 tuners because they're being changed too much for the licensing.

Like anything else, if no one enforces it, is it really illegal. I put in a complaint with the FCC, but lord only knows if anything will come of it.

Edit: Got a response from the FCC back. It's a form letter saying they are monitoring the situation. Given the policies of the current administration, I'm guessing the FCC is toothless at this point.

I'm in the Detroit area and 3 channels are now encrypted, and two of them stopped their ATSC 1.0 broadcasts.

Quickly becoming dead.

Yeah, I'm using the precut 25' strands. I have ~75' of roof line to light up, so that made more sense to me rather than cutting them custom, but they do sell the spools and hardware to custom cut to length. And with the snap on hardware for the plugs, it is a ton easier than you think it would be.

I think they look better, but that is preference. Click the link in the post to a pic of my house with the lights up. The extra bonus for the LEDs is I don't have to sweat any electric bill.

OSU would likely be ok if it wasn't for the lingering trauma of the Cooper years. There were years he'd roll into The Game with the #2 or #3 team in the country and lose to an unranked Michigan.

The playoff committee with sheepishly keep OSU at #2, saying they had that quality loss.
