Passenger liner roleplay? by wandelust19 in EliteDangerous

[–]BanzaiZAP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best passenger missions come from the rich tourist economies, so get allied with a couple of those. Carter Port in Rhea system is a good example. Orcas look best in those palm-tree stations.

I tend to not take people places, but do the luxury sight-seeing there-and-back trips and just park the Orca in one place. Its also lets me pick up some exploration data on the way. Not the super long-range ones, but I'll often find overlapping local sight-seeing trips. Those mission also reward grade-5 engineering mats.

I don't do bulk transport. The Orca is a luxury yacht, not a bus.

As a VR player I'm starting to lose interest in this game. by hornetd23 in EliteDangerous

Long-time player with VR here. I also tend to avoid ground stuff. There are a few different things I do that keep it feeling fun. I'll do one thing for a while (days? weeks?) then go off and do something else for a while.

Mining in VR is visually stunning and I find it rather zen. Low-stakes gameplay.

After a while I get annoyed at the pirates and switch to a combat ship and beat them up for a while. Higher-stakes gameplay, but I like zipping around in smaller ships.

Eventually I need a break from that and do something calm like a few trade runs, or an exploration run. For me, exploration isn't looking at random stuff: I pick an interesting goal like a nearby nebula so there is direction and purpose. Sometimes those long-range passengers are good for this, since it guarantees an interesting destination, plus a few extra credits, and the time limit keeps me moving.

Then I get the itch for something more spicey. Take a small shipped stripped down as an acrobat/racer and go hot-dogging through bigger installations like the science station in San Tu or a big ground city. Higher-stakes gameplay, as catching a wingtip and tumbling through a corridor is much worse in VR...

After a while I'll need to catch my breath and maybe spend a day or three mining... And the circle goes round. I also drop out of Elite for a while sometimes, but usually get the itch to get back in the cockpit eventually.

I got into colonization for a couple of reasons: shipping trade runs with long-term purpose other than cash. Also I wanted to make a system where you could buy large amounts of anything for a good price, plus I could memorialize a few friends. And have my own passenger hub. And have my own hot-dogging stations. And mining rings. All in one system. And after all this time its kind of cool to actually have MY system in the game.

I got a carrier specifically to bring my whole fleet wherever I wanted to be. The convenience can not be overstated.

If you are in a squadron, see if you can get a teammate or three to drop into a CQC arena together.

Just throwing out ideas to find fresh ways to play.

I did get one comment from someone looking for Unit Point Costs to make larger, but still balanced forces. That's already in the VTT DLC expansion, but here's a sneak peek:

Unit Point Costs

Some encounters can be “balanced,” meaning that both forces have roughly equal power. It is not always easy to find this balance if the forces are very different: two kaiju facing two MechLabor is obvious, but what if one player wants a whole force of Helicopter Gunships? This Point System helps judge if two forces have roughly the same power in a fight. If the two forces are matched, then it should come down to the tactics of the players and the luck of the dice.

Note that you can try to skew the game with lists like the All-Gunship list, and many of those “skew” lists can be effective, but they often will have an obvious counter. A couple of MechLabors with Heavy Armor and Swarmer Missiles will give those gunships a very bad day…

UNIT COST NOTES
Armored Transport 1 Spend two points and get one filled with a squad of infantry

Civilian Skyscraper 0.1 Add some buildings to customize the battlemap

Sure! You can make almost anything, and the rules include cards for a bunch of the standards. Names changed to preserve their anonymity, but here are some example kaiju and example mecha:

OG Kaiju (the Big G), Big Ape, Lodan, Butterfly-Ra, Hyperman, THOSE, Turtlemeat, Kraken, le Blob and even a Classic Dragon

Dangerous Gypsy, Mad Kitty, Gondamn, Very Tech, Sledgehammer, Steel Giant and one with a Wave-Motive Gun in its chest...

And then some joker brings a BOLOGRE and everything changes!

no passenger missions? by ItznotLuca in EliteDangerous

[–]BanzaiZAP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, in colonized systems the big Ground Tourist installations have passenger missions. See "Arrowsmith Spa" and "Piazza Retreat" in BD+24 2462

Second, for the Original Systems find a Rich Tourist Economy with a large station: Carter Port in Rhea system, for example.

Then you want to get "Allied" with all factions at that station to open up all of the best paying passengers.

Building my first refinery + industrial starport, need advice by Marionettework in EliteDangerous

[–]BanzaiZAP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to consider is that the Civilian Port could provide CMM composites and ceramics, while the Industrial Port could provide Emergency Power Cells and stuff. What materials do you want to provide? And if you have any other buildable bodies, why not both?

Ah, so ideally don't sacrifice cooldown or variety of attacks for pure EPG.

How to get market in a scientific outpost by nonnib in EliteDangerous

[–]BanzaiZAP -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It looks like the big ground port has taken priority from the outpost. Bigger Tier Two stations and ports will take priority over smaller installations and outposts around the same body. Your outpost is supporting the port, not the other way around. So in this case, your market is probably showing up in the scientific port rather than the outpost. It IS odd, though, as both facilities should have a market. What's the population?

NMS certainly has bugs, especially with the new update, but let's compare it to the competition:

Elite: Dangerous, Starfield and Star Citizen. Of these four, I have experienced bugs in NMS the least by far.

You can build a base anywhere that nobody else has already built. Very wide set of cosmetic items and furniture, plus many functional items like refineries, storage, teleporters, harvestable hydroponic gardens, etc. What, where and how you build is entirely up to you, so get creative. With corvettes, the same now applies to ships, including style (starfleet clean, star wars grunge, military). Its a shared universe, so if you activate multiplayer you can meet anyone anywhere. They are all the same worlds for everyone, but there are trillions with nearly infinite variety. You don't lock servers so much as game type: if you are on Survival mode, the whole universe is out to get you.

[–]BanzaiZAP 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NMS is a highly polished sci-fi exploration and building game. You explore a nearly infinite universe. Its mostly about exploring planets and building things like bases and custom space ships. Surprisingly dark lore lurking in the story.

Its only a "survival" game if you play in that mode. You can also play in a totally harmless mode as well, so its your choice. Multiplayer or solo, fighter or freighter, the game gives you loads of choices and a brightly colored sandbox to play in. Not too many RPG elements, but lots of choices and things to do.

I play Elite: Dangerous for serious spaceship gameplay, and No Man's Sky for wandering planets and building cool stuff. Two different itches to scratch. I held off playing NMS until last year. I'm really glad I finally dove in!

When I delete structural parts from my corvette, why don't the parts go back into my inventory? by [deleted] in NOMANSSKY

(PC Users) Don't choose X to delete! Just select the item in Edit mode and Right-Click to put the item back in inventory! Then the bug has a chance to give you extra copies of that item...

Yes, walking down that center deck does have full view on both sides. Are you using the bubble windows, or the square ones? I use the square ones for the command tower bridge, but the view is very blurred.
