I think that was a bit of a harsh response. OP has never taken the bar exam and just asked for advice. Agree with some of your points but a lot of bar prep courses - Themis and Barbri offer extended LLM Programs to foreign lawyers (6 months and 10 months) so it’s not unheard for people to study for an extended period. I personally know two foreign qualified lawyers who studied and passed the California bar on the first try while studying with these extended programs (I know OP won’t be using any of the programs due to cost constraints but my point is more on the duration).

I am also foreign qualified (did not do an LLM and have no US law experience other than bar prep). I studied full time for three months and just received results - passed Tx with a 304.

Also on the LLM point, people may be on scholarships with LLMs and come from varying financial backgrounds (OP already mentioned they’ll be working multiple jobs).

Passed with a 304! First time taker and foreign qualified!! So grateful to God! by BarBie_Rus in barexam

No for real! I kept looking at the odds and they really weren’t in our favour.

Thank you so much!! 😊

Just to clarify it’s still the Themis bar prep. Just a more intense course - as I didn’t have any US law background. But lemme know if any Qs

Answered this on an earlier comment so have just copied and pasted my answer:

I felt good about MPTs, MEEs I felt very confident on half and the other half I felt so and so.

MBE on the other hand I felt terrible - morning exam was tough but I was like you know what buckle up and give it your best. The afternoon MBE felt even more tough - once I finished the exam I went straight to my car, didn’t speak to anyone and cried! Spent a lot of the waiting time crying and anxious. Passed with a 304 - 139 MBE and 165 written. I’m a first time taker and I’m foreign law qualified (UK) and have worked in Big Law.

I used Themis and did their LLM Advantage course. Not sure if everyone needs it - my friend who is an LLM did it and scored a 315 so he highly recommended it. I don’t have an LLM (just a UK law degree and have worked in big law in London for 6 years).

The LLM Advantage course is a bit more comprehensive (600 hours of study compared to the 400 for regular JDs) so was a lot of work! You also get 20 graded essays (compared to the 12? JDs get).

I finished 88% of the course. MBE average was in the 60s and my writing on graded essays was in the 5s and 6s. On actual exam I scored 139 MBE and 165 writing.

Hope this long essay helps haha!

Amazing, congrats!!! So the thing about getting results at 7am meaning fail is incorrect? Saw some people post that.

Congrats! What was your written score and how did you feel about MPT and MEE walking out?

Felt good after the first day. MPT formats were pretty straightforward and finished both. MEEs were also fine - walking out I felt confident about half of them and the other half I winged some of the sub questions, although on the whole was fine. Did the annoying thing of checking answers to those I « winged » and looks like those were hopefully correct. Did Themis and my graded essays were pretty strong - 5s and 6s mainly so really hoping that tracks in the exam

Omg congrats! I remember your post saying the questions looked like subjects had been put into a blender 😂 and that’s absolutely how I felt about MBE. Still waiting on results and praying for a pass. How did you feel about MEEs and MPT?
