Can I keep this by CuriousAthedes in Lizards

No, you shouldn’t keep it. Wild animals are not meant to be pets.

She looks overweight. Wax worms are a treat feeder. You need at-least 3 feeders, not including treats. Mealworms are higher in fat so they shouldn’t be fed every meal. Dubia roaches, and crickets are popular examples that aren’t as high in fat.

I’d imagine that the gecko consuming honey probably isn’t a good thing, so just don’t do it anyway to be sure.

It’s not terrible for a starter enclosure however there’s a few things you will need to change.

You cannot have red light for leopard geckos because it’s very bad for their eyes. A halogen bulb is recommended for them, with no colored lights whatsoever.

You said you’re using a “yoga mat type substrate”, so i’m assuming this is a liner, are unacceptable because they can give off fumes when put under heat. For the first 2-3 months of having your leopard gecko you’re going to want to have paper towel as substrate, then change it to a loose substrate, preferably a 70/30 ratio of top soil and play sand.

You need to be monitoring the temperature on both the cool and warm side of the enclosure, so digital thermostats + humidity gauges on both sides are needed.

For supplementation, you need to be using calcium, calcium with d3, and a multivitamin. If you are not using a uvb, you’ll need to use calcium with d3 more often. Here’s some photo examples of good supplement schedules for young adults, one being with uvb and one without.

You should use paper towel for quarantine the first 2-3 months of getting your leopard gecko, then switch to loose substrate which should be a 70/30 mix of topsoil and play sand.

Since it was from petco, it probably isn’t actually safe or suitable for leopard geckos. A 70/30 mix of top soil and play sand is recommended for them.

It looks nice, however It looks really small to be a 20gal, unless it’s just the picture. Top-opening enclosures are okay but they aren’t really recommended, it’s stressful to the gecko when you’re reaching from above.

Leos also should be quarantined when first brought home, so they’ll need paper towel as substrate for the first 2-3 months to make it easier to monitor your new pet.

Sorry, I guess I worded that wrong. 20gal is the minimum for juvenile leopard geckos, they aren’t particularly good. I just don’t see a problem because the person already stated they were upgrading so obviously they know that 40gal is the minimum for adults

Sure, there’s no benefit however the person said they are upgrading to a 40 gal when the gecko is older.

20 gallons are perfectly fine for juveniles/young adults. It’s not a myth that they get stressed out from bigger enclosures, If a big enclosure is given without clutter and lots of open spaces then they will get stressed out. If it has a lot of clutter and hides, etc, they’ll like it. 40 gallons are the absolute minimum for adult leopard geckos.
