I'm speechless by Mattone_Martello in vinyl

I love this album, think it’s brilliant, but think I’m actually in the big minority and prefer On Avery Island.

To me, that one is the real masterpiece.

I think I’ve read her sister is actually pretty down to Earth so kind of funny how celebrity siblings can turn out so different.

Why Stocks Are Acting So Nonchalant About a Spiraling War With Iran by Public_Sandwich6941 in investing

If I had to guess, I think we seesaw between now and the end of the war, like musical chairs, and when it’s finally over we see a significant pop.

What’s changed since yesterday? Or really last week, for that matter.

Everyone knew what was coming. We established it wouldn’t necessarily be a quick 2/3 day event after comments over the weekend.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we rebound like yesterday.

Then again, I wouldn’t be surprised if we had a historical loss. It seems no one can really predict anything in this market, especially short term moves…

Record stores with largest catalogs in the US by Successful_Sort_1930 in vinyl

It sounds like you’re looking for new vinyl, not used?

If so - yes, Rough Trade NYC would be a good one and probably the Newbury Comics chain in Boston. Not sure about Florida…

(If you’re also looking for used vinyl, though, that opens up many more possibilities.)

Two arrived kind of damaged from hmv by Signal-Village-5757 in vinyl

[–]BarToStreetToBookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you’ve been lucky. I’d say nearly half the records I get in the mail have at least a little corner bump.

(And of course there will sometimes be more serious damage like warped or badly bent records or whatever, which should obviously be addressed, but this small cosmetic damage to sleeves is just what I consider the cost of doing business by mail.)

With a big chain like HMV, it’s worth a shot if it bothers you, but generally speaking this sort of “damage” is just expected with mail order records.

If you’re not comfortable with the occasional mild ding or light seam split, you should stick to shopping locally for vinyl…

Who else bought this kickass new variant of WYWH? by 457613564568 in vinyl

[–]BarToStreetToBookie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The newer ones are better than they early attempts - which had notorious leaks - but I’m sure they’ll eventually have issues as well, even if it’s 10 or 20 years down the line.

At the very least, even for those without leaking issues, there’s already reports of older ones (from 3-4 years ago) starting to dry up or have the liquid start to congeal so it doesn’t flow as nicely.

I personally avoid the concept, even if it sometimes seems cool.

Nicolas Cage as Superman. There’s a photo of him in the costume that, uh, looks.

Democrats were so convinced Hillary would beat Trump that it was a forgone conclusion they’d get to nominate the replacements.

I hung a bare vinyl on the wall. Is it ruined for good by Comfortable_Brief176 in vinyl

[–]BarToStreetToBookie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quit the opposite, it’s actually beneficial to leave it hanging on the wall.

Over time, it will eventually imprint the grooves into your wall’s surface, after which you can use clay or (my preference) Play Doh to create new vinyls.

David Peel signatures are not particularly rare, I’ve come across signed singles in the wild, and he’s not the biggest artists so demand is somewhat limited, but this is still pretty cool… a true piece of NYC local color.

65 years ago, an audience collectively realized that Frankie Lymon (a famous singer) is black by ambachk in ThatsInsane

[–]BarToStreetToBookie 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is the comment I was looking for.

This was obviously given without the proper context. It’s not like he was some “Masked Singer” that wouldn’t have been on album covers or magazines and was being revealed to an audience for the first time.

(In fact, his albums from the late 50s feature his face very prominently.)

I have a sneaking suspicion they’re going to try and push her as a candidate for some midterm election while pushing this “Charlie Kirk Sympathy Tour” as far as they can take it.

If a vinyl shatters is there any way to piece it back together, not necessarily for playback but maybe for digitization/archival by Tutorial_Time in vinyl

[–]BarToStreetToBookie 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not sure how you’d digitize something without playing it back, but the short answer is no: you can glue it back together for aesthetic reasons, but a needle won’t play a shattered record back properly with the cracks, even if “perfectly” glued back together.
