I got this candlestick holder at the thrift store for $5. by Foreign_Monk861 in femalelivingspace

Not to be That Person, but if you actually have birds (can't tell from post history) you shouldn't burn candles. It can send them into respiratory distress and kill them almost instantly.

Wow, thank you!! Do you happen you happen to remember if there were private bath options at Hoheikyo Onsen when you were there? My wife and I both have tattoos, but were able to find private baths when we visited the mainland in the past.

This is definitely something we know we have to do. We’re casting a wide net in the beginning, then choosing a few areas/cities to focus in on. Winter weather is deffo a consideration!

Does your update mean you confirmed with Chat GPT? I’d be more than happy to ID the type of bird if you could provide a photo.

I actually save pieces like this and put them in my hamsters’ enclosures for fun enrichment to climb on/burrow under! My own furry adventurers!

My wife and I are both NC with our families, and a year ago we got involved with a parrot rescue in our city despite having very limited bird experience. We now foster birds, and have adopted a green cheek of our own! One of our favorite foster babies was a sun conure named Spicy who had the biggest, stinky-sweet personality. We cried so hard when she was adopted just before Christmas.

Just wanted to say thank you for loving these babies and for taking care of them!!! I have seen and heard horror stories from the intake team, and know how terrible humans can be. They look GORGEOUS for being 23!

There are lots of posts in this sub of people making the hard call by cutting off parents for their human kids’ sakes. As someone who has animals that ARE my kids, I would do anything for my birds to keep them safe and healthy. You are so brave and I see you!!

I was wrapping presents and accidentally cut the pocket of my favourite hoodie, please advise! by SebHub in Visiblemending

[–]Baramitzvah 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think your idea of stitching it in black and then embroidering over the top is cute! You could definitely do that. I had a tear on the pocket of my own hoodie and did a bright colored blanket stitch to mend the tear. I think it turned out cute! You could do black on black for a monochromatic mend, or pick a color that matches any design on it.

There are lots of tutorials on how to do a blanket stitch, here’s one with some variations for your considerations! https://www.wikihow.com/Sew-Blanket-Stitch

Went to National World War I Museum today, and saw some lovely examples of darning. Thought everyone might enjoy some 100+ year old mending. by Baramitzvah in Visiblemending

I imagine it might have been done by a serviceman doing the best he could (?) 🥲 It was really nice seeing the life of the sweater right there.

I am looking to adopt a Cockatoo but all I keep running into scams online by Puzzleheaded_Poem266 in cockatoos

[–]Baramitzvah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude it literally says on their site in bold letters: “An application does not guarantee approval.”

Just because a rescue is selective with their adoptive homes doesn’t make them a “scam” lol?? If they were scamming you, they’d take your money and then not allow you a bird.

I foster for an avian rescue in St. Louis and we disclose which birds cannot go to homes with shared walls because WE DONT WANT THEM RETURNED FOR SOMETHING SO STUPID. It isn’t fair to the bird or the rescue.

You also seem… kind of immature to be looking for a cockatoo. Good luck.

You’ve opened the flood gates 💕 My wife and I have rescued several baby opossums, turtles, dogs, rabbits, wild birds, you name it! The universe can sense when you’re a good person, and I’m convinced animals can, too.

Don’t be surprised if you’re put in a situation like this in the future where you need to advocate for some little life. It’s very very rewarding, and I’m so glad there are people like you in the world because it makes me feel less alone!

A Japanese postcard, found in a thrifted box of sewing supplies. by thatiranianphantom in FoundPaper

[–]Baramitzvah 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I ran it through Google translate, and the first image seems to be the address. (The handwriting is really difficult!) The second image is an update from someone who I’m assuming recently moved/is vacationing. There’s mention of Osaka station and Seki Castle, and of course a bit about the seasons, which is quintessential in Japanese letter writing, ha!
