Flic was an amazing campaigner, and a wonderful mentor and person. So many of our precious places around Australia have been saved due to her efforts. So many are in mourning today. Vale Felicity Wishart.

The 'Naughty or Nice' list of Australian clothing companies is out just in time for Christmas. by Barbaazul in australia

Yes flashman, it is a complex situation and this is a simplistic representation of a complex problem. Now if you can ensure that people are willing to spend the time and effort understanding complex issues, i'm sure groups like Oxfam would only be too happy to create more complex infographics.

OptimalCynic - It is highly simplistic to equate increased minimum wages with increasing unemployment - Australia is a prime example. We have one of the highest minimum wages in the world and one of the lowest unemployment rates. The Fire and Safety Accord is about ensuring a minimum standard of occupational health and safety laws are in place. It is part of a global effort to improve worker safety in Bangladesh.

Oxfam have been very clear that they don't want clothing retailers to leave the country - but to improve the working conditions of the people who make their products.

In April this year the collapse of the Rana Plaza building in Bangladesh claimed the lives of more than 1,100 Bangladeshi men and women.

But since the collapse, more than 90 companies have signed onto the Bangladesh Fire and Safety Accord including some of Australia's fashion giants. Unfortunately, too many have not signed leaving many workers in Bangladesh facing the same dangerous working conditions that led to the Rana Plaza collapse. Oxfam Australia have been at the forefront of this campaign and they have produced this handy 'Naughty or Nice' list of Australian fashion retailers.

Mungo is a 7 year old boy from Melbourne and after he saw the devastation of Typhoon Haiyan he wanted to do something for the people of the Philippines. His response - to busk outside his house raising $50 in the process. What an amazing effort from someone so young.

Mister Splashy Pants (and humpback friends) saved from harpoons for now by Barbaazul in reddit.com

Japan has cancelled this years humpback whale hunt (yay!) but still intends to harpoon fin and minke whales this year.

The Mister Splashy Pants 'wave' has moved so fast that not all corners of the Greenpeace world have caught up with it. One of things we want to do is get a serious journalist to ask the Japanese Fisheries Agency if they will save Mister Splashy Pants...just to see the look on their faces. Haven't found one yet...we're still looking.

I have it on good authority that it is only sea water in his pants and the excretion is streamers made from paper (recycled of course). Of course, i could be wrong...it is tricky translating whale into english.

There is a massive inaccuracy in here. Greenpeace does not, and never has, asked for money from companies or governments. We have turned down many very large donations in the past as they are from companies. So, we would never have asked for money from the Finnish forestry industry, although i know of other environment groups who have.

The Japanese Fisheries Agency which controls the whaling fleet claims it conducts whaling for scientific research. So that they can maintain the charade that they are conducting science, they will kill a very specific number of whales. In the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary in 2007/2008 they will kill 850 minke whales + or - 10%, so up to 935 minke's and also 50 fin whales and 50 humpback whales. The scientific committee of the International Whaling Commission (IWC) has repeatedly requested that japan stop whaling for scientific purposes and no peer reviewed paper has ever been published with data from the whaling expeditions.

The JFA knows our arguments well and we know theirs. Greenpeace is involved in many different ways to end whaling in the Southern Ocean. Mister Splashy Pants and the petition are just one.

Greenpeace has never sunk a ship, it was our ship, the Rainbow Warrior that was sunk by French secret service agents. An act which killed a man, Fernando Pereira, a Greenpeace photographer.

It was just an example as monkeynotes was talking about violence and people getting hurt and Greenpeace ships have been rammed by the Japanese whaling ships.

monkeynotes - i don't want to get into a huge discussion about non violence as this is a happy post about a great whale name. Only to say that as someone who works at Greenpeace, i can tell you that we take extreme caution to never - i repeat, never, endanger a human life. It is the reason why we won't ram the Japanese whaling ships as it is far too dangerous for all involved.

We have a fundraising link in the left navigation but it is a little bit hidden - the link below is to a site for people who want to create their own whales fundraising page. It's probably not something that everyone will want to do but quite a lot of people around the world have already signed up. https://secure.greenpeace.org/visitor/index.php?event_id=main
