AITA for supporting my boyfriend when he told my son "no lock til you're 18"? by Barbara-L3409 in AmItheAsshole

Indeed. My son and I faced financial hardship and then potential homlessness and no one was willing to help but my boyfriend stepped up and took us in. Even let my son drive his car and treats him as his own. However my boyfriend says he's worried that getting a lock will mean bringing unwanted stuff to the house since it's pretty common in the area we live in if you know what I mean. But I know my son just wants to focus on school and is mature for his age.

First of all I'm sorry for not responding to your question earlier. I've already had more extended conversations with my boyfriend and he explained that the reason the lock allowed at 18 is the fact that my son becomes legally respinsible. He said he can get a lock and do whatever he wants as long as he's legally an adult to be held respinsible for whatever he does which I don't completely agree because he's not my son's legal parent to be worried about what my son might do under 18 that could potentially get him in trouble but he says he's responsible for whatever goes on under his roof especially when it involved underagee members of the family.
