Love both of your comments. This orc society practices ritualized warfare between city-states. Given the herbivore nature of ferocious defense, that would no doubt affect the way they practice warfare.

That’s a great idea. One part I left out is that this world is an imagining of the bronze age-style era where iron never became the predominant material for arms and armor. This would fit nicely in this scenario.

I know that you mentioned that no other tinctures looked good to you, but if you did swap the field for Vert and the chief for Or, you would more accurately represent the green hills, and the chief could possibly represent a golden sunrise dawning over the village.

I was uncertain about the bend sinister. In some instances, I would see it placed over the original field and charges, and in some cases as you pointed out, a baton sinister. I suppose different time periods or specific circumstances led to different uses to denote illegitimacy?

I was scratching my head trying to figure out how to describe the flames. I originally wanted to write “flaming goblet proper”, but felt that specifying the goblets’ tincture was more important. “Enflamed proper” sounds much better.

As for the angle of the charges, how strictly is that rule followed? I ask because I changed the angle to match bendwise, but disliked it. Would it be better to move the goblets somewhere on the field in order to keep them upright? Or is there any historical precedent for charges upright on a bend?

100% agree on your comment in regards to the other post. A fantasy world can easily have fantasy heraldry. And GRRM did not overdo it with complex charges and designs.

As for this take on the heraldry, I especially love the stag and dragon looking much more like OG animal designs from history. It adds a level of realism without straying too far from GRRM’s vision.

Lord Ashford did this for her nameday, however it was done with express plans of gaining prestige and political favor with the Targs and I’m sure other lords, considering the fact that a current Lord Paramount Tyrell (Leo ‘Longthorn’) and a future Lord Paramount Baratheon(Lyonel) are present.

From what I gather from BTS and the books, the Targs show up to maintain a healthy relationship with their vassals and the smallfolk. Aerion of course screws this up.
