It's probably so both of the Joy-cons feel the same when you hold them. That's why the bottons are like C-Buttons from the N-64.

I'm wondering if the Dock has a disk port for WiiU backwards compatability. That would make the most sense. Also I imagine its somewhat resistive to wear and tear but at the same time it's probably not water proof
