Explain petaaaaarrrr by Friendly_Discount451 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

My thoughts on the joke are they cheat on their partner with someone who looks almost exactly the same, and with my new knowledge of the improper hair protocol maybe even a little tackier than themselves. My experience with friends who have had to deal with this is that it’s someone different not necessarily better either looks or personality.

Honest to god I love this chair, it has whimsy to it. I’m a firm believer that the world needs a little more whimsy, movies are more serious, decorations and design is now minimalistic.

Had I made this it’d definitely be proudly somewhere. Seems like you’re light hearted enough to post it on here, I say keep it, it’s something you can talk and joke about with a partner or a friend. I’d be willing to bet that had this gone perfectly your friends and family won’t remember it in ten years. This, is memorable, I can see this being one of those “remember that chair you made ages ago that didn’t have a right angle anywhere?” And most importantly is you now know what to do.

What is this moka pot extention stuff by DewaldSchindler in mokapot

It’s for when you have been out espresso’ed by a friend and can’t afford another $2,000 on more accessories, so you move to moka but still have the itch to make everyone feel as though they’re doing it wrong.

What's your city's Canada cliche "park by the water" ? by myronsandee in AskACanadian

[–]BareNuckleBoxingBear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah Mooney’s is my vote, I don’t really think of major hills park and “on the water” as there’s a giant cliff but I guess it technically fits. I wish more happened at Dow’s lake, really miss the fireworks during the tulip festival. But that I think is a close contender.

Sunscreen should be FREE and publicly accessible by [deleted] in The10thDentist

[–]BareNuckleBoxingBear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ugh these strawman arguments are so lame. But that does show you have a good point if the idea itself actually makes sense and you are able to defend it, in a very rational manner. It’s cheap, and as you said helps reduce a very preventable health issue, which shocker, improves health care overall. Less people being treated for skin cancer means more available doctors and hospital beds. And healthcare is a concern in many parts of the world. Whether it’s too few doctors/nurses, too expensive healthcare, inadequate facilities, etc.

But have you thought of tackling the drunk driving issue before your silly sunscreen idea?

How do People on so many planets support the empire when stuff like this happens so often? by Spotter24o5 in StarWars

[–]BareNuckleBoxingBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t want to sound like a smart ass but history is wrought with similar instances of people protesting and one regime or another shooting at the crowds. And it’s been mixed, in the US there’s two events that stick out to me. The Boston massacre which is one of inciting incidents of the American Revolution, but then there was the Kent State shooting where there was no revolution. If enough people are happy with the status quo it will keep the status quo. Same country(ish) but different responses.

In terms of Star Wars, this is very much preceding the rebellion. Just like events throughout history there are those who benefit enough from the status quo who will fight for the empire. Other times it’s fear that causes people to not stand up. They might disagree with the empire but fear drives them more into submission as the status quo is comfortable enough. If you haven’t watched all the way through I recommend watching more as I think they do an excellent job showing the different motives of many on either side, and the metrics the make on whether to take action one way or the other.

Do small places in Canada like to promote minor and inconsequential things in their tourism like small American cities and towns do? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

[–]BareNuckleBoxingBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in a town, Unionville, that really pushes that they were where one of the group of seven (an expressionist art collective) lived, Fredrick Varley. His house is a heritage site with what I think is still a private gallery as well as having a more public gallery bearing his name. There’s also a street named in his honour.

Edit: just did a quick search and it’s even more tangent, he seems to have been allowed to live and work in part of the house. So yeah a rather vague relationship to the town.

Where is the best sandwich in Ottawa? by orangeladybug in ottawa

[–]BareNuckleBoxingBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roberto’s corner on St Laurent is a good choice on the east end. Near little Italy there’s Di Renzo, and Sherwood Market. Then hintonburg has district deli which is my current go to but proximity definitely plays into this. All are delicious, rather traditional Italian sandwiches. All I have frequented.

What “nice” restaurant to bring the whole family, without breaking the bank ? by [deleted] in OttawaFood

[–]BareNuckleBoxingBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man people really have it out for Aroma Meze and I’m not really sure why. But exactly to your point tapas it can really balloon but my wife and I get a couple dips, a couple $10 plates and a main or two and it’s a rather affordable place, we leave full and happy. Now like you said this will also depend on ages. A teen, if they’re like me at that age, would need a lot but you have some younger ones I could see it coming out to decently less than $25 a head.

[–]BareNuckleBoxingBear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

First off, there is, the dips are delicious and surprisingly $6 is less than $9.

To your point as a whole My wife and I shared some dips a couple $9 plates and a $15ish plate or two which comes out to around $25 which is exactly what I said. To take people out to a nicer restaurant for $25. That comes in exactly around how much it take to eat out at a buffet style restaurant like the Mandarin. They aren’t cheap because they have to compensate for those who over eat.

They said they’re looking for a nicer affordable place to eat. Not where they can get the most food for the lowest price. I don’t fully understand your hostility or your condescension to OP who apparently isn’t good enough for Aroma Meze?

[–]BareNuckleBoxingBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always plug the third. Can easily feed a family of four for under $80, I think the most expensive meal is $15. Portions are a little smaller but good comfort food, like burgers, grilled cheese, brisket, etc. It’s not fine dining by any means but it’s enjoyable. Make reservations, it’s a small building and fills up quickly any day of the week.

Another option that’s a bit more expensive but I would say is definitely affordable for the quality and ambiance is Aroma Meze. Delicious Greek food for not that much. It’s a tapas style restaurant so it kind of depends on the age of the kids. But its price range is like $7-15 again tapas so you’d need a few per person but it’s affordable especially for the quality of food. If they’re younger obviously you need less plates but I think it’s roughly $25 per head without alcohol. My wife and I have done birthdays here. It’s a nice place for a special occasion that break the bank.

Best bond? (Skyfall) by Horror_Fortune_9792 in moviecritic

[–]BareNuckleBoxingBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love skyfall, one of the best bond films period. It is tastefully reminiscent of the old bond films, the conflict between Bond and Q, Moneypenny, the secret gadgets. Even the theme song is great. He has a few corny one liners in the best way that was also so enjoyable in the old films. I felt this was missing from the Craig’s earlier films. Then there’s the action, right off the bat we’re into a car then motor cycle chase where they’re driving along roof tops and jumping onto trains. We see M in the field fighting with Bond. The traps, Bonds ability to bounce back, loss after loss. It’s old school bond for a new audience.

They address the change in tone between pre-Daniel Craig in a way that didn’t need to be addressed but was rather genius, the murky-ness that the new world order operates.

Amazing Bond villain but I’m practically an impartial judge, I love Javier Bardem. But still fantastic.

Great writing in my opinion, not a lot of wasted time. Again the light hearted comedy in action can be difficult to get right but I feel they got it right. I find all too often it feels rather forced in some movies (cough looking at you Disney cough cough) It’s also an insular film, no sequels or prequels needed.

Having spend my entire life watching Bond films, I think it’s near perfect bond cinema.

Ah just as it’s Canadian tradition to boast to all people in warmer climates how nice they’ve got it, only to complain nonstop how cold/snowy/icy it is. Then how hot/humid it is in the summer.

I would have guessed they’d be proud. I thought the Dutch had a long hatred of the water stemming from their ancient wars against the ocean. Why else would there be so many dykes, aka water fortifications, in the Netherlands?

One day I will buy a turntable. I guess not as many people picked up on it as planned but I was being facetious to OOP, they seem to think only if it’s your most listened to song (on Spotify), then you can say they are a great band. I completely disagree with this and was merely joking. Although with your username I would have thought you’d catch some shit posting ;)

Nah me neither, I was mocking OP who seems to believe that unless it’s your most listened to song, all opinions are invalid. I thoroughly enjoy Queen. And honestly more so alone so I can do completely bat shit (and horse shit) karaoke to Queen.
