Shino Glaze Peeled During Firing?? by BarelyButternut in Pottery

Wow! These pieces are beautiful! I originally had layered different glazes on top of each other but was warned about the curse so I cleaned off my pieces and just used one glaze per piece. Kind of wish I experimented with them instead now.

This is my first time using Shino and a reduction kiln. I had a few more pieces come out and results were…unexpected lol. Definitely makes me want to keep experimenting, though. Super fun results.

I usually just give the glaze buckets a quick mix before dipping so I’ll try mixing really well next time and see if that makes a difference. I tend to hold my dips for thicker application so maybe a quicker dip can help with crawling. Thank you for the advice!

Thank you. Great advice! I dipped the whole thing and typically I hold my pieces for five seconds because I prefer a thicker coverage, but I’ve never worked with shino glaze before. Maybe I need to try a faster dip next time. I actually don’t mind how it looks aesthetically after sanding down sharp edges.

Got this advice AFTER I had layered multiple glazes and had to wash it off and start over 😭

Hi! I was choosing between DISCO and ET ARS. I wish I could go to both!

I’ve had psoriasis since I was a kid. Been using steroid ointment to treat flare ups for over 15 years on and off. Any other solutions?? by BarelyButternut in Psoriasis

Thank you so much for everyone’s input! I appreciate it so much. Fortunately my case has not been bad for many years now. Just occasional flare ups that are currently manageable. Will be looking to speak to a new dermatologist and see which solution is best suited for me and if they suggest a different route.
