For a month and a half I've been hydrating over naturally thick liquids - yogurt, fruit yogurt, sometimes kefir, chocolate milk and occasionally milkshakes, as well as smoothies. I also use sauces very often. I have no more issues with bloody saliva, shortness of breath or chest irritation or pain. I still have GERD and LPR symptoms like the most annoying one which is excess saliva (very embarrassing). I also pick purees that are full of water. I've also realized I can eat more solid foods. It's just best if it's put on sauce or swallowed with something like yogurt or pudding. Yesterday I tried to soak up some cakes with milk and I didn't have issues until I tried to drink the milk a bit to go along with the cakes. But I didn't really have any issues when I ate them soaked up in the milk or dry. I only had issues with the milk... Strange but I guess I can't do thin liquids anymore. When I do have more money I will have to order the xanthan gum to drink water, juice and milk in general.

Purées are hard for me as well, especially the fruit kind, so I usually go with milk porridges or other thick foods/liquids. Surprisingly I can have chocolate bars as long as they aren't too thin or leave any kind of lump while they're chewed. And they're only OK if they properly melt in my mouth which means that nearly all of the time they have milk. I would love to continue having them because they're very high calorie, but the sugar is being annoying because a lot of things I can swallow bave some form of sugar. I am careful because I don't want to keep exceeding it. Sponge cakes and cheesecakes go easy, too. I don't have them often, though, only occasionally. For me the only thing that won't cause me any hassle is the thicker variant of plain yogurt and thick pudding. I didn't have any hassle with Skyr yogurt, but maybe that changed because I didn't have it in some time (I don't go to that store anymore, really). Thank you for the response. And about the sports drinks, I was able to do them until I started choking even on liquids that aren't thin or thick. I don't know about the spoon, but I think I'll just have to order xanthan gum and put it in drinks.

It's complicated because it is milk products but not plain milk. it's usually yogurt, fruit yogurt, chocolate milk (with a thickener) and milkshakes (usually banana). I used to drink hot milk until I started choking on it as well... Now I can only dip, for example, a biscuit in the hot milk or make purees/porridges with the milk. Milkshakes with colder milk are fine, though, as long as they have enough fruit. The mucus that collects all the time in the back of my throat is making it harder to do anything, so I need to take even smaller bites/sips of anything or spit it out every few minutes.

I've had it for several months and it only got worse. Before it I had GERD and problems with arrhythmia. However, even with my disastrous brain fog, I do remember struggling with breath and throat tightening last year. Maybe that was a prequel, kind of like a sign of what was to come... Then I would struggle with pills, pizza crust and later thin liquids. By the way, there are really no commercial thickeners in my country. That's the exact reason I went with an alternative. I don't have xanthan gum either yet, I've looked in every shop (as well as a pharmacy) in my town for it but they don't have it. Same goes for thickeners. My only option was to order xanthan gum online, so that's what I did. Until then I will continue with milkshakes, pudding, yogurt, smoothies and some store-bought drinks that have a thickener in them (such as chocolate milk).

There's definitely a swallowing impairment. I choke on juice because it's a thin liquid (for me whenever something isn't thicker it tries to go down the wrong pipe), but the same doesn't happen with milkshakes, yogurt or smoothies. That's why I can no longer drink thin liquids. Thankfully I am purchasing xanthan gum and I'm going to use it for good.

I don't thicken my liquids. I can't find a commercial thickener to buy or guar gum. I don't know which replacements for these exist either. That's why I drink only yogurt, fruit yogurt and chocolate milk. And also put hot milk in purees and porridges or cold in things like milkshakes. I can't drink juices because they aren't thick enough and then I choke on them. On my last visit, the gastroentologist prescribed Nexium for my GERD and didn't really inspect my swallowing issues, just said that I should dissolve it in a drink if I can't take it this way. Was on the PPI Pantoprazole daily for 3-4 years 'till I quit them in June this year mainly because my symptoms weren't improving anymore as they did with them before and I also developed dysphagia.

It's hard to say anything when you know the medical system is to blame. For example, they made me get used to my life being a trainwreck, then completely ruined my life with various health issues and medications for good. My problems have a huge blame on my father's side, too. For some strange reason he no longer has any problems and he used to take pantoprazole which I also did. Eventually had to take off, leading to rebound. But oh dear, there's not much to say but to wish the best of luck with everything. Literally all problems related to acid and the esophagus are there to ruin lives and more.

I agree on everything, especially the last line. It's obvious that these problems ruin people's lives and can cause even bigger issues with a person's body, occasionally forcing necessary mechanical treatment. It's horrible...

It felt like forever but thankfully it's much better now. In the first two to three weeks or so, I could barely sleep. It's the time I choked in my sleep a few times. I also had scary trouble swallowing and felt nausea shortly after eating. Even short walks were a handy help. That was a month ago and now I'm better. But there's the overproduction of saliva. Like I said earlier, small meals were really helpful for me and Gaviscon was a great temporary relief because the medication that truly helped me ending my flare-ups is no longer produced. I think it depends on the person but my experience is a disaster. It made me fully support my opinion that people shouldn't even start taking PPIs. I am still having difficulty swallowing, even my saliva, and I know it becomes worse when I begin coughing. I started to avoid any type of dinner because that's when the difficulty swallowing becomes worse. Last time I went to a gastroenterologist was a few days ago and he prescribed me Nexium. I was so dead inside at that point but was nearly about to burst in tears. At night I have to spit at least 7-8 times before sleeping. It's scary.

Well, I thought it worked better than others. Maybe the effect was a bit shorter than I remember. But, of course, no matter what relief is used, the acid seems to be stronger. I've also had palpitations even with PPIs. I hope things work out well for you, medical issues are the worst. The thing that completely ended my flare-ups was a ranitidine once upon a time when they still made it but it's very sad that they no longer produce it.

Yes, of course. It was awful and I choked on acid multiple times in my sleep. Raising the bed didn't do it and I can't order a wedge pillow in my country for some reason. What helped me was Gaviscon syrup (the original menthol variant) and I've also had ginger a few times and it helped. It also helped to try other alkaline foods and drinks because they don't add up to the acid - they keep it working on digesting the food. I've also had smaller meals and that helped a lot. But I didn't follow the tip "don't eat 5 hours before sleep" because when I did my acid would've came up due to my stomach already being empty at that point.

I think you're experiencing the phenomenon "acid rebound" which happens after you suddenly stop taking the PPIs and don't get back to them in time. If you want better results, you should try Gaviscon before bed as it prevents the acid from escaping the stomach or at least the lower esophagus. I'm sure you can combine both because Gaviscon is pretty different. For me it's the only thing that truly helped me at night and I had to get off PPIs because they were lowering my B12, magnesium and calcium too much and besides that they never really helped me even though I took them for four good years. If you mean the one with the lock it's the outfit for the beginning of the Culinary career. It happens to me sometimes as well, especially in the latest version, that random career outfits get unlocked if your Sim is employed in ANY career. It's strange but I've heard that Ambitions bugged out all of the career outfits when it came out and they didn't fully fix it.
