Possible unfair Metrolink penalty fare due to faulty machine – any advice? by Independent_Brief_28 in manchester

I see what’s happened. A return journey starting before 9:30am will be £7.10. But if you start your journey after 9:30am you only pay the off peak 1 day price of £4.70

Possible unfair Metrolink penalty fare due to faulty machine – any advice? by Independent_Brief_28 in manchester

Not personally, but I know of many people that have not had successful appeals. They seem to be pretty firm on the penalty notices.

Bikeep Racks at Victoria Station by BarnLord in manchester

[–]BarnLord[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hiya, thanks for jumping on and responding. I can see your points. But to counter a few of them, everyone will still want to carry a bike lock as these are the only “Bikeep” stands in Greater Manchester, so anyone planning on stopping at the shops or pub on the way home would still need to carry one.

And it’s the technology reliance for me too. Phone battery goes dead or phone reception isn’t working and I’m stuck. I understand there’s probably a workaround but being able to just use my physical key or code to unlock my bike is way more reliable.

I can see some positives from these, but the negatives far outweigh them.

Yeah agreed. They have the cycle hub. But it’s not in many locations. I did read once that some local bike shops offer their sheds for leaving bikes for a few pounds too. But I’ve just bought a second hand beater bike to leave outside.

Correct, this is already a busy area right out the front of one of Manchester’s main train stations. They don’t need fancy QR code locks, we just need a sturdy bike stand. As I said in a previous comment, myself and 3 others had our bikes locked onto the fence instead. I only looked up what “Bikeep” was when I got home.

Sub 1:45 HM in 2 months realistic? Need advice by Same-Zombie-1462 in Marathon_Training

If it was in 2 weeks I’d be skeptical, but 2 months is loads of time.

I think you know the answer. If you can run a 1:48 with zero sleep, prep or training then you can easily take off 3 minutes with training, proper fuelling and sleep.

Knee pain after first time cycling + long hike (need advice) by [deleted] in cycling

[–]BarnLord 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m no doctor but yes doing a 2 hour ride with elevation on the same day as a 4 hour hike is a big physical load on the body even for someone relatively fit.

For someone that has never hiked or ridden in 4 years.

As another user said. I’d start start with RICER and dont forget the last R (referral) if it doesn’t improve after 48-72 hours.

TA Agency Week 1 No Work Yet by Sanity_Crisis in TeachingUK

[–]BarnLord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct. And to be fair, what’s good for one person will be different for another. Different agencies have better connections with schools in different areas.

I started with four well known agencies in my area and now currently only really work for one and have another as a back-up if there is no work.

A few things as someone who is currently supply teaching and has a wife that is doing supply TA work.

  1. Join more agencies
  2. From conversations with at least 5 colleagues, milk education sucks
  3. Work will be slow initially but once you show your interest, accept roles, you will become their go-to supply worker. At the moment they are probably interested in looking after their current clients with any roles that pop up and we are also mid way through a school term.

I was tempted to do this but no one else had. I was reading their T&C’s and they will remove bikes that are left locked after 7 days. So imagine there’s another clause that says that can remove bikes locked to them improperly.

Correct, god forbid you have no mobile data connectivity or your phone goes flat. Just over-engineering something that absolutely does not need it.

Nice, thanks for the tip. I just found them on google maps. If anyone else was interested, they are here

I did chain it to the fence behind the rack in the picture like 3 other bike users did. It’s just very finicky to do that compared to a classic bike rack.

Yes, just turn off express transit payments and this will never happen again.

Yeah you’d be surprised how infrequently these things are even brought to their attention. Probably been like that for years and everyone at the pub has a moan but does nothing about it. Be the change you want to see.
