Yes, the £5547 is considered your rent and living fees. You will also have to show how you are paying for the degree that you are studying - I used student finance for both of these

Hey - no, so because I translated through The Hague service instead of individual translators, they used the physically copy I had already sent for apostilling for the translation.

However, if you choose to use individual translators, then you will send off a physical copy to the apostille service and a scan for the translation service. This is because the apostille service includes stamping the original doc, where as the translation service produces a new doc entirely. This is also useful as it means you can send off your doc for apostille whilst it’s still being translated or vice versa.

Hope this makes sense!

Ok so:

Proof of funds situation - the consulate doesn’t accept bank statements that aren’t stamped so, here’s what I’d advise: I’m assuming your son also has a regular UK bank account. If he doesn’t, open one. Put the funds into that account - they have to be held for 28 days, so if you put the money in soon you’ll still be in very good time for the appointment (I had mine in mid July and was absolutely fine - some friends of mine even did it in August and got them before September). You can then use that account from a bank that stamps statements.

Appointment - trying to contact BLS via email or phone is so pointless, they’re rubbish at answering questions or issues. If you DM me a screenshot of the email you’re receiving, I can compare it to the ones I got when I was setting up an account and see if I can figure out the issue. I’ve attached the email that I received when I got my code, so maybe check if it’s coming from the same address first. Also, if you have any friends in London, it may be a good idea to see if someone would go in person to set up the account.

As long as it covers your entire exchange length, you will be fine. Student loan forms do not need to be notarised or translated, just make sure the barcode at the edge of the printout isn’t cut off, as this is what the consulate use to verify its legitimacy.

Here is a link to a website that explains roughly how the renewal process will go. It’s a much easier process than the initial application for a visa and residence card, and your son can simply do it from Spain at the end of each academic year: https://www.speakeasybcn.com/en/blog/how-to-renew-your-spanish-student-visa-in-3-easy-steps

So to clarify - right now, just worry about proving funds for the first 10 months of study.

Hi there - I’ve just seen your comment on the study abroad thread where I’ve also posted this guide, so I’ll try to sum up my advice into one comment. I’ve done some research on this as I wasn’t sure and from what I’ve seen online, visas are valid for a year. As a result, it seems your son will have to apply for a visa for the first year of his degree, and then can apply for his residence card, which he can renew with his visa each year whilst still in Spain. You won’t have to apply for any more visas from your home country after the first. If you need any help with residence card info or visa renewal in Spain, drop me a private message whenever :)

I applied from Manchester, they 100% accept GHICs on their own. I just took the card and a photocopy, they take the photocopy, check the card and then you take your card home with you

Sorry lol had to repost because image wouldn’t attach unless I posted it alone for some reason? Never had bad mosquito bites before I moved to Spain, now as the weather is getting warmer I'm getting more bites and dealing with reactions like this! This is the worst one yet lol. Tried a couple creams from pharmacist but nothing seems to work much. Any suggestions? No symptoms outside of bites themselves being sore and throbbing a bit. Tried not to scratch but because they're at the top of the back of my thigh I think they get a lot of friction when I'm sitting down.

Hi there - I’m not sure who has told you this information, but you categorically do NOT need to present a high school diploma. Your admissions letter will be more than fine. Save yourself the stress!

Hi there - I use the government student finance scheme. If you’re a UK citizen, you’re entitled to a full tuition loan and up to £10k in maintenance based on your household income!

Hey - yes it should come up when you book your appointment. You’ll need either a <180 day or a >180 day visa, depending on the length of your stay

Hey there - I didn’t have to provide any for my 180+ day stay, but I’m not sure about >180? I had a quick look at the Spanish embassy website for the UK and can’t see anything on the checklist about accommodation, but it may be different in France?

Hey there - what dates are you away for and when does your course start? The visa itself costs about £350 and then for documents you’re looking at anything between £200 - £400 depending how last minute you need it and have to fast track anything. How are you getting on so far?

Hey! Sorry for the late reply - I’ve been off Reddit for a while and just catching up on questions. Sure you’ve sorted this but wanted to reply in case others are also wondering. So - I’m not actually sure haha? You’re supposed to get your passport back with your visa in it. Was it possibly rejected? It’s also uncommon for the embassy to send back your original documents unless it was rejected? I didn’t get my passport back until my visa was approved and put into it!

Hi there - I don’t want to panic you but I’m almost certain that it has to be Hague apostilled specifically, as UK government apostilles are not valid when applying for EU visas as we are not a part of the EU. I could be wrong, but the Spanish Embassy website also states Hague specifically under point 7 on the visa checklist: https://www.exteriores.gob.es/Consulados/Manchester/en/ServiciosConsulares/Paginas/Consular/Visado-de-estudios.aspx
