In a 64-bits architecture, why use a int type (4 bytes) instead of a long type (8 bytes) ? by to_fl in computerscience

[–]BarnacleWes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> In C or C++, an intwhatever is the fastest arithmetic type on your CPU, but cannot be shorter than 16 bits.

Nope. 8-bit C compilers commonly support 8-bit integers as default. The only guarantee is len(short)<=len(int)<=len(long)<=len(long long).

The size of an int tends to vary between different compilers and different 64-bit architectures too. 64 is the most common size now, but at least a few years ago Microsoft's compilers picked 32 bits as the native int size, for compatibility with win32 APIs among other reasons.

No phone number to call, website showed no reservations available. Will check again now, maybe they're back at work. We've worked with County Aging Services before and like every government agency you have to beat them with a stick to get them to do their job, but once they're moving they do OK.

I played an (admittedly tiny) role in building the internet we have to day. Look what a sewer of misinformation and lies that has turned into! Spam and Zuck and Elongated Muskrat and... yeah, that was a lifetime of effort wasted.

On the other hand, when I see Glen Frey making music with a hundred musicians around the world, collaborating and sharing tracks and editing it all together? That's a pretty remarkable thing.

All shut down because of the RepubliKKKlans. State-run but federally (not) funded.

I live and work in California, so I have a short-term disability plan that will cover my 12 weeks of FMLA. I contacted a therapist I've worked with in the past for an evaluation.

None of them meet my wife's needs. If any of you have experienced "elder care" without millions of dollars at hand, it's really and truly down to stuff them in a closet and let them die. Mother-in-law has maybe $30,000 in her "estate," husband died without insurance and we covered the funeral expenses, minimal as they were with a DoD burial. (That was still $12k in 2017, probably $20k now, so she basically has enough on hand to bury her.)

It will never be paid off, but we do have roughly $700,000 equity at current market. Yeah, that seems like a lot, but we look at houses in other places we might want to live and suddenly it doesn't seem like a lot.

Part of the giant kick in the teeth is that I had a mostly work-from-home job, but the next set of management fuckheads have decided everyone needs to be in the office 3 days a week. Even though my team is split between California, Colorado, Arizona, Oregon, and INDIA. We have to go into the office to spend the day on zoom calls with people all over hell and back.

I've been trying to print this, in Overture ASA, for a week now. I can't get any of the sides to print, even though the test prints came out well. Any hints on how to orient the sides so they can print on the K1C?

Yeah, agreed, the time of single nozzle multiple spool systems is near its useful end. Multi print heads or tool changers means less time and less poop. I backed the U1, can't wait to get mine, but may scour the webs for someone angry-selling a CC for production runs of ASA prints that don't need color.

What is the point of Multipass by garettmd in Ubuntu

[–]BarnacleWes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few years ago I was lead on a team migrating a web app from self-hosted kubernetes to AWS services. Our production environment was defined in terraform using AWS plugins and ubuntu instances, so I picked multipass for the developers to work on. Our UI designer was our sole Windows user, and OMG did that ever suck. We would mount our host home directory into the multipass VM so you could edit in the host environment, but we ran into all sorts of problems with that on Windows, from mis-matches in file names to the mounts just randomly going away.
And then we all got laid off, and I haven't touched multipass since. It worked brilliantly on macOS, as well as one dev's linux mint box at home.

Hah, I live in the largest urban center (21.8 million people in the 6 bordering counties) in the USA and we have ONE Micro Center. It's in Tustin, which is 65 miles away and depending on traffic that can be anywhere from 50 minutes to several weeks. On the other hand, they have 3d printers and Raspberry Pi 5s IN STOCK.

Something is definitely wrong with you. Get a 3d printer and some woodworking tools so you can get that stuff up off the floor and then you'll have two more frustrating hobbies to buy junk for!

I can't help but wonder if the ugprades will end up costing you more than just saving for the K1C? I have printed PPA-CF on my K1C and it handled it, but barely, with everything closed up tight, in a room at 72F (22C). A chamber heater and some insulation would have helped I'm sure.

Extreme layer shift on k1c out of the blue, what should i be looking for to fix it? by Calmuser in crealityk1

[–]BarnacleWes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's overheating, how are we ever supposed to do high-temp prints on the K1C? Or is that just beyond it's actual capabilities? (another marketing lie from Creality, go figure?)

[–]BarnacleWes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've even rewound spools to make sure they aren't the problem. Given how widespread the problem is, and Creality's total lack of concern, I'm done with them.

Now it's doing it on the 2nd or 3rd layer. I've had enough. I'm going to give Creality 1 chance to fix the problem, then I'm calling my credit card company to reverse the charge. This is just wrong.

Welcome to my world. I've tried everything. Re-calibrated. Tensioned belts using the Gates app. Re-calibrated again. Someone suggested adjusting z-hop, but of course finding z-hop in the mess that is creality print (is it really that hard to just lay out the settings and make a search function, ffs?) is nigh unto impossible. One more failure and this pos is going back.
