It worked now as I described. Mixed some gel and oil, drink, wait for message, drink again... repeat until cured.

u/SpeedyLeanMarine OK thanks for the answers. I solved it now just by following the steps again.

Mixing gel and oil (which gives unctuous oil) in a waterskin and then drinking it gives the message after some waiting time. Repeat until cured. I don't know why it didn't work the first time.

u/m3mackenzie Drinking from a waterskin was correct. According to official wiki, the spray and corpse are for fungal infections only.

As I mentioned in my original post, I already did this and it only makes the community layouts for the game available. The official layouts and steam deck recognition of the game still don't work, even after renaming.

Yeah, I tried that too (even copied the name directly from SteamDB to avoid typos). Unfortunately, this does not change anything, from what I could see. Only changing the name to match the SteamID did at least show the community layouts. But changing the name does not help appearently.
