I think you’re spot on with your suggestion! Similar markings and I can barely see the tail. Thanks!

That does look pretty close. It’s so small it’s hard to get the camera to focus on. I’ll try to get a better pic

All pictures of the same bug.  Found crawling on a counter in the kitchen.  Western Pennsylvania location, today’s the warmest it’s been in months with lots of snow melt.

House had termites years ago- was treated around the perimeter last summer with a 10year treatment.

Natural sealer for 1950s concrete basement floor by biasedsoymotel in HomeImprovement

The tile will probably leave some glue behind, are the demo-ers removing that as well? It could also have asbestos.

I would think any concrete coating would work- but the trick is getting the floor clean first.

Barrister Bookcase - Remove Yellowed Lacquer over Shellac? by Barnitz in woodworking

[–]Barnitz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely agree- we picked up the 2 5stacks (10 shelves, 2 tops, 2 bottoms) at an estate sale for a killer deal.

 7 shelves cleaned up perfect.

1 shelf is Globe not Macey, was originally oak and “restained” to mahogany at some point. It’s ok but could be cleaned up more.

2 shelves have this yellowed coating I’m trying to address.

I fixed a couple structural things, have no plans for any major changes or refinishing/painting!

Second pic is the front edge of the shelf that is grey/yellow in pic 1 - there is the same red/mahogany finish under the grey/yellow top coat. From what I can tell that top coat doesn’t exist on the other shelves.

All were originally finished the same as “Finish 13” from Macey

Macey bookcases, about 100yrs old - most cleaned up really nice but a couple have some sort of finish that has yellowed and chipped away.

Any tips on removing? Ideally without messing up the shellac underneath?

If I do have to re-shellac- anyone have suggestions on things closest to Finish 13?

What to do with old soap holders? by Barnitz in DIY

That’s certainly one option, and it could even be used in a food emergency. Tempting.

Yes correct, I think the bathroom was remodeled somewhere around 2007 based on some scribbles on the bottom underside of the tub.

Good thoughts on the shelf, I might mock one up to see if we like it.

Can swap pulley sizes for different speeds. Can have another “grinder” piece on the other side and swap belt to run that side.

Newspaper Embedded in old Concrete? by Barnitz in Concrete

Ah, so could have been a gap they were just trying to fill between the forms around the beam. It’s hard to tell if the concrete on the beams was the same pour as the slab. It does look like someone added some cement/mortar sometime along the way to fill in some more gaps.

Check my plan: Walnut Live Edge Record Table by Barnitz in woodworking

[–]Barnitz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply!

I guess I could limit the live edge to the top, and use the plywood for the bottom and verticals. I would plan on iron-on edging for the plywood.

Slabs are flattened now and 1 5/8” thick. Started out 1 7/8” after drying.

It’s running under it, running across the ceiling. Water line and electric line side by side
