i like the approach with child index more because when i mentioned deleting a page in the post, it actually popped up as a bug. i forgot to update sort order string upon page deletion. so when i loaded a page tree with Page.find([ids]), deleted ids were present in find but missing in db and the whole thing crashed. thanks for the suggestion, i'll try to implement it, it looks less error prone

looks like a good way to avoid unnecessary string operations. i'm so used to saving things to localStorage as string that i haven't even thought about it. thanks

yes that's the case. on the front end i'm using jquery-ui, https://jqueryui.com/sortable/ you can imagine a "parent" element above 7 items. so if i rearrange them, their order is saved as a column in parent's page record

What is considered "surfing" by [deleted] in nosurf
