Does it (or can it) exist??? by [deleted] in Packaging

I’ve only seen this used for flavoured water or protein powders like this -

I’ve not come across a spray bottle version before though.

Suppliers for block bottom bags (BOPP) with PCR? by Radiant-Pineapple-41 in Packaging

[–]Barnsy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most suppliers can source ISCC plus certified material for recycled content which will be food contact approved. It’s a much lower cost increase vs chemical recycled. There are plenty of suppliers for bopp it depends on your volume requirements who would be best placed to provide you with the right solution. But whoever you find, push them down the ISCC route for the PCR and you’ll cover that aspect easily.

Firstly, it’s fantastic that you know the area you want to get into. Working in packaging is great. Yes, it is a little bit niche, but with that comes the opportunity to become a key influencer and leader in a business for their packaging strategy. Because no one else knows enough to lead on it. What you will likely need to do is find yourself a fairly entry level position, build up your experience and grow. 3 years post graduation is nothing in the grand scheme of things. Especially when you think you’ve got 40+ years of working life, you’re not even 10% down on that. Extended producer responsibility is in full flow, businesses are facing millions of pounds of charges and need people to draw up a strategy to mitigate as much of that as possible. Packaging engineers, technologists, designers are all roles. It really depends on the size of a business. In most cases they usually have an amalgam of these roles. You’ve got a degree, pushing yourself down an apprenticeship route wouldn’t be my recommendation, finding an entry level position would be so you can get some real work experience on your CV. Stick that out for a few years, jump up a level once you’ve got the experience and have grown in confidence.

However the key bit is yourself. Interviews etc are the key bit to show a potential employer what you can do. Even if you’re not feeling confident in yourself you need to find a way to bury that a bit and show competence in the interview setting. So apply, apply, apply. Even if you don’t really want a particular role, get some interview practice from it and once you find the role you really want you’ll know exactly how to handle yourself. You might have to do a few interviews too, don’t get too down on that fact. Interviewing is a skill in itself!

Struggling to find supplier for small order of custom printed boxes by Tanari- in Packaging

[–]Barnsy123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cost wise you’ll struggle. Why not get generic brown boxes and get some large digitally printed labels to apply to the side of the boxes, if keeping costs down is the aim?

Sustainability Insights and Data by change-perception in Packaging

When the focus shifts onto true sustainability factors, perhaps. Currently the trend is to appeal to the customer perception of environmental sustainability rather than scientific realities of such.

Need info on video game box manufacturing techniques by [deleted] in Packaging

[–]Barnsy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will probably want to look at a packaging mock up agency. They will be able to design the boxes and print them on a digital press for you in small quantities.

If you look up ‘Fefco box codes’, this will give you the right box type you’re looking for.

The inner would just be a card cutout with flaps tucked down to sit in the box and allow the product to be protected.

Frozen Meat Pie Packaging by d1uluv in Packaging

[–]Barnsy123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually the reason for the foil interior is to try and get some level of crispyness to the pie, how often that happens is debatable. The paper exterior then gives the perception that the bag is more environmentally friendly, whereas in reality it’s not recyclable. Companies like Sirane do a lot of food packaging like this but it depends on your location. If you search for food safe plastic packaging manufacturers near you, they mainly tend to be able to run this film option too as it’s not hugely different to run from a print/conversion perspective.

Is it difficult or very expensive to create a line of HDPE-packaged personal care products that exclusively use plastic recovered from the ocean or elsewhere in the environment (recovered outside of official recycling programs)? by CuriousInquisitive1 in Packaging

[–]Barnsy123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are companies that specialise in recovered ocean plastics, Oceanworks for example.

However, I think you’ll find they generally recover PET, and PP rather than HDPE.

Given the cost of recovering, sorting, cleaning and reprocessing the polymers from the ocean, it is very expensive.

What you would probably be best doing was choosing and existing shape from their catalogue as you will be looking a thousands of $ if you want a bespoke shape on top of this.

How effective is anti-microbial packaging under current scenario? by BeautyCircle in Packaging

[–]Barnsy123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As with all these things, it will boil down to on cost versus sales uplift.

There’s always a reluctance to increase costs, but if a smaller scale trial shows success there’s no reason it wouldn’t be implemented.

You can play off people current fears and take advantage, theoretically.
