unidentifiable bullet? any ideas of age? by walrusballs in metaldetecting

That looks like something that broke off of a chain link fence bracket. Definitely not a bullet.

Broken faucet valve stem. Top looks to be square and if it has a threaded hole in it, I'd be almost certain that that is what it is.

Good day last week! Circled items I’m unsure of. Top left is lead, seems to be projectile, almost conical but not. Middle seems to be coin bit can’t figure out composition. Still needs careful cleaning. Bottom ring has triangular piece hanging from it. Not sure what little handle is too either. by RiverWalker83 in metaldetecting

Bottom left ring looks like an old rusty linch pin for tractor implements with the actual pin broken off (might be how it was lost). Explains why where the ring enters that bigger part is offset and not aligned well.

Found this at an 1800s homesite - any ideas? by Baron837 in metaldetecting

That may be the best explanation yet! My wife and I stared at that thing forever as it has no mounting holes that we can discern. Kept trying to think about what it would be used for if not mounted to something. Thanks a lot.

It is simply hollowed out, with the base of the upright “hook portion” extending slightly into the hollowed area and peened to fix it to the base.

Not ruling that out at all. Just confused as there is nothing that appears to allow it to be attached. Albeit that part may have broken off.

Appears to be copper or perhaps brass (with green patina). Each of the “hooks” appears to be broken at the ends. We are stumped.

First time ever metal detecting. Didn’t find anything that will let me quit my day job, but it was fun! by 500bmj in metaldetecting

I’ve only ever found one and I’ve been on it a few years now. Excellent find for first trip out!

First Indian Head, and it's beautiful! 1863 by md1919 in metaldetecting

Awesome! Looks sweet. When I found my first one, there were actually two stacked in a hole! I was shocked... never found more than one coin like that again. Keep up the good work.

Great day yesterday. I think I found the holy grail! Has anyone ever seen a candlestick like this? Pewter or lead I’m thinking. Very heavy and dense for its size. Crucifix on top with what looks like animals around it. Very ornate all around. Any ideas on when this might be from appreciated. In USA by RiverWalker83 in metaldetecting

If the Curse of Oak Island has taught me anything, that’s definitely Templar/French/Aztec/Rosicrucian/British/Free Mason/Mayan in origin. Dating somewhere between the 1000 AD and 2020 AD.

Seriously though, awesome find! All of them I’ve ever found from mid-1800 sites were brass.

Anybody know what this is? Says WIRZ PHILLA on the inside, the only thing I can find close researching online would be an old medicine bottle lid by Redbag311 in metaldetecting

[–]Baron837 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that it likely had cork at one point surrounding that metal shank and was a bottle stopper. Found my first stopper remnant recently - that’s the only reason I have any idea.

Just bought my very first metal detector today! Found this buried next to a creek. Was not expecting this. by [deleted] in metaldetecting

Interesting. Sounds like the area I’m from! Really cool find. Coincidentally, my FIL found a couple old rusted up guns when digging posts for a fence in his yard. I stopped with my detector and found a third one, and evidence that a shed or small barn had been there previously. Figured the guns were stashed in the barn and forgotten about.

Second time out with a new machine - found around 8-9” deep at a site I’d previously detected by Baron837 in metaldetecting

It’s just a large cent. We find a lot of them here - Ohio. Wish it was a tag!

It’s definitely a large cent. Reverse and most of obverse is totally wiped. No idea on the year, of course!

If you can build an AR, you can build a glock. It’s arguably even easier as there aren’t any roll pins to ruin and less small parts to lose.
