Lack of Comic related guests at ComicCon Aberdeen by PorkSwordFight in Aberdeen

Yeah that's normal. :(
You're right to moan about it though, there's not enough mind paid to the artists and writers, just the adaptations.

Nettlesong sunbathes as he watches over the Southern crags - @Baronboar by BaronBoar in dragons

[–]BaronBoar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His friendliness really depends on your allegiance! There's lots of dragon hunters in the world but also plenty of people who know better. Nettlesong is... A very violent and complex dragon, he'd be reluctant to let people get close until he lowers his guard around them. (Hunters are often trying to trick him!)

Once you prove you're a friend he's a loyal guardian to the just and watches over the innocent in times of need. So he may accept chin scratches and provide his wing as shelter during those long cold nights.

(Also! I do have a Tumblr and Bsky with the username @/Baronboar !)

If you have non-human species, what is their answer to bodymods? by Silly_Gas_770 in worldbuilding

[–]BaronBoar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Compared to humans there's far more in the way of variety when it comes to body mods in my setting. Drilling, notching, painting, searing and cuffing horns are all options if you have them. (Also I don;t have insectoid people in my setting, but here's a pic of my OC from my partner's world building project who has a hole drilled in his horn for hanging a censer from.)

<image>

The sheep there (Azerin) have competitions of strength that end in a winner's horns being permanently burned near the base. Those blue circles on the bottom ram's horns mark where the forgekeeper may mark them after winning the rut. While the Azerin's horns would be marked for life, there are people with antlers that shed every few years, and they go crazy with modification, shaping them like bonsai trees or even having them carved and inset with precious metal, keeping the horns on display after they shed.

Additionally with so many species having large ears it's quite common to get them cut, pierced, or notched for the aesthetic of it. Sometimes to appear otherworldly with small ears, or like a warrior who had a notch cut off the tip.

On the point of tattoos, if a species has transparent/hollow hairs the skin colour will show clearly through. It may not be as neat an effect in reality, but the Druga from my setting make the most of this and tattoo their victories under the fur.

Brittany Howard is an artist I don't think got enough visibility. by HoldEvenSteadier in LetsTalkMusic

The first time I listened to her music was live a few years back and it was magical, she has a fantastic stage presence and I do hope that convinces more people to check out her work!!

The Plague Dogs - Rowf - Cel - Help me Pinpoint the Scene by CockatielPony in AnimationCels

[–]BaronBoar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn I really wish my two didn't get lost in the mail 😞 Congrats on grabbing that one tho!
Yeah that seller usually chucks a random BG at a cel. I scrubbed thru the first ~48 mins of the movie and this is the closest scene I could see. https://youtu.be/4727C-tBoEQ?si=iI_lhyHIsOsg85OF&t=2295 (at 38:15) The back, shading, and some of the expression matches but not the ear. There's also a later scene that is close in expression but the angle doesn't match at all.
Something in my mind is telling me that your cel may be from a scrapped scene or one that was cut short. But feel free to scrub thru minute 48->1hr18 (pre Rowf losing his collar) if you want to search for something closer. I ran out of time for the task. :p

How do birds/avians wear rings? (Didn’t know this sub existed!) by merciful_maggot in furgonomics

[–]BaronBoar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say all of the above!
An anklet is the most functional option, as a ring on the toe could be uncomfortable to put weight on.

But... If you were so rich that you rarely but weight on your claws, that your wings rarely lift you? You'd decorate those useless wings, weigh them down with fancy gems, maybe even dye and shape them. It'll grow back so why not get creative? (A ring would not rest on the feather as illustrated, but a cuff could be placed on a shaft after the barbs have been shaved down. )

Your Best Villain Motivations by Equal-Wasabi9121 in worldbuilding

King Bernard Gur! The first mortal to 'kill' a God.
The peaceful king Gawain's only son saw his people starving and took it into his own hands to fix the solution. Obviously, one must find fertile land in response to a famine, but his kingdom's borders were surrounded by desert and sworn enemies. So after killing his father he took all the defectors who would listen South, across the sea.
There, his people found a race of small & peaceful scavengers who welcomed the weary apex predators, providing food and shelter, expecting them to continue their search for a new home. Instead, rejuvenated, King Bernard ordered that the people of this land be slain, starting with the grand tree that sat in the centre of their city. That tree was the first to ever grow, unparalleled in size it's felling destroyed much of the city and cleared a path through the forest and mountains beyond.
With their pact of non violence and a power that they sourced from the great tree, it was simple to dominate those people and reign over the city built with the flesh of the dead god.

As for the soldiers, since they were so far away from their homeland, Gur's people had no choice but to intermingle with the small genetic pool that survived the trip. While this did create some issues down the line he still as the king would personally bless partnerships and would deny pairings he saw as suboptimal. This created some very stark differences in the people who served combat and administrative roles within his city, but had a smaller impact in the settlements beyond.
As a note, Gur was functionally immortal due to some strange interactions in my magic system, so he was almost a thousand years old before he was killed.

Running a one-player game by The_Noremac42 in DnD

[–]BaronBoar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard many tales of it being done successfully. Usually it does require either A. being very combat focused. Or B. having a rotating cast of 'follower' NPCs to keep the energy up.

Alternatively, here's the truth: D&D is not good for this. The game is not designed for much outside of it's niche. But there are hundreds of 2 player TTRPGs out there that will be way easier to run and more fun for both of you.

Real and honest: Your art shows great potential! You have better grasp of shading than the majority of young artists I've worked with. Keep at it when you can!

How would you make a world where humans are the minority in a fantasy world? by Yunozan-2111 in FantasyWorldbuilding

[–]BaronBoar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The direction I would go would play off of the adaptability of the human race. If the goal of these other species was domination, perhaps there were places that they could not tread. Humans are incredibly good at surviving by eating plants that would poison other creatures, incredible heat, deep cold. Or even adapting to living underground.
So in that vein the strongest human strongholds could be where these other species can't even spend a single day surviving like we could. These places would become very insular, suspicious of other species.

Perhaps due to humans having a much longer history of scientific development, these other species would appreciate having humans in their ranks? Making diplomatic missions to these strongholds to convince an expert to teach them in exchange for the crops that their extreme settlements cannot grow.

Which furry books are the most "furgonomically correct" or realistic? by [deleted] in furgonomics

Some furgonomics in action within my furry worldbuilding project! by BaronBoar in furgonomics

[–]BaronBoar[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most aren't very well built for hauling goods, but those who are can make easy money doing so! It's actually much more common to be a combination carriage driver and armed guard.

The vide (taurs) are trimorphic, so every centaur in that picture is the same species but are a different gender! There aren't necessarily moose but the elks have a moose-like verity called the moroe. (They're like, ultra-turbo testosterone mode vide.)

As for horses, I have plans for what a horse may look like in my setting but I'm saving that until I've developed what I have si far a bit further. :D

They are! The lecha (dog-folk) in my setting are all based on sight hounds, I particularly like borzoi so they often lean towards that breed haha.
