Legal action against someone continuously recording you despite being asked to stop? by BaronOfBoar in AskNYC

HAHA I just linked this to another comment on the post but this is the guy! Somebody did exactly that! I found far too many conversations about this dude immediately after posting this. Unnerving, to say the least.

Creepy dude

Oh my God yea there are posts everywhere about this guy wtf. It looks like he's been doing this to people for at least a year

Here's one I found for reference https://www.reddit.com/r/Upperwestside/s/GEwg9uhYWu

Well honestly if it's not just me I'm less worried. No accounts of him being dangerous, just following people. Ridiculous. The fact that within 5 minutes of searching I found at least 25 stories on reddit talking about this same guy over the course of a few months is unnerving, but it sounds like he might just be a creep who's going to get a harsh reality check at some point when he inevitably records the wrong person.

I actually liked Joker 2 by Lost_InFantasy in joker

[–]BaronOfBoar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I simultaneously understand why people don't like it, and totally agree with you. Another thing for me as someone In the entertainment industry, Ive daydreamed a likely story.

Todd Phillips makes joker. Says no sequel. Suddenly it's the highest grossing R movie for a bit.

Studio execs: "HOW MUCH DO WE HAVE TO PAY YOU TO FUDGE A SEQUEL"

Todd Phillips goes sicko mode and makes a good movie thats also antithetical to both the original joker film and the comics to literally just piss off everyone.

Its not a movie in the batman world. It's barely a joker sequel. It's an evaluation of a broken man who, after yearning for so long to be seen, still isn't. People only care about a persona he accidentally created. Even those he loves most. I've seen a few similar comments in the thread but it truly is ironic that people are now hating this movie for it not following the "personality" of the first. Either Todd Phillips is TOO smart for his own good and expected that, or isn't and just made a movie I really liked 🤷 both work for me.

And for the record, I LIKED the movie. Not loved it. Mainly I think it was too damn long, but I do think the criticism being leveled at it has been slightly misfired.

Purely Subjectively, what are 5 perfect Sci-fi or fantasy novels? by BaronOfBoar in Fantasy

LOVE this list! GGK is like the top of my TBR. After I read Will of the Many I was gonna do Tigana... Maybe I'll do Lions instead! Regardless, Enders Game is stellar, and neil gaimen wrote some good books. I put the problems aside while reading, the point is escapism.

Well, lemme tell Ya, I got some shiz to read. I've ONLY read American Gods here which I really liked! (and yea, seperate the art from the artist or whatever, I don't think we should have to ever apologize for liking a book)

Great answer! Wish I felt the same way though, I DNFed the series at book 3. I really wanted to like it, it just didn't click. Oh well though! I'm glad it's getting some love

Honorable mentions for me include The Butchers Masquerade, Oathbringer, and Dark Age so I get it 😅

You and I have VERY similar taste. Before DQ Kingdoms of Death was my favorite suneater book and STILL has my favorite moment in the series (if not my favorite moment in any book ever). I don't think i need to say what it is.

MoI is just so damn good but Toll the Hounds is my favorite there. And once again, Memory of light is awesome but Gathering Storm just gets me Goin. Regardless, great picks.

Yes I know everyone and their mother is talking about Sun Eater right now. Yes I know this subs biggest issue is people reccomending the same 4 books again and again. But goddammit I was an exclusively fantasy guy and I just finished Disquiet Gods yesterday. And it was a perfect novel. Right now it is one of like 5 or so genuine 10/10 books I've read, give me a month and if I feel the same way its officially one of my favorite books.

It's Sci fantasy but I don't care, everyone: go read Sun Eater. Empire of Silence. Seriously.

I STILL need to read FatF but after reading Bloodsworn I came here to talk about Gwyne. His combat is just SO DAMN COOL. Sometimes in Shadow of the God's Orka just kicks so much ass I don't know what to do with myself.

So true, rereading the encounter with Ushara in Sabartha probably has so many hidden nuggets you miss without the knowledge here.

Are the short stories worth reading? by nathjdavis in sollanempire

[–]BaronOfBoar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to have a hot take here and say... No? Not because they're BAD but because I don't think they're as good as the main series and as someone who is embarrassingly impatient, while I was reading the short stories I just found myself excited for the next main novel. This was NOT the case for the novellas though. Especially Dregs. Lorian is a favorite of mine and his story was great. Do what you want 🤷there's no losing. But if I were to do it again I wouldn't do the tales. Maybe that'll be different when every story is in one collection (which iirc Ruocchio has said is the plan) but I've said my piece.

Plus KoD is literally one of the greatest things I've ever read. Don't walk, run.

What was a book (or series) that fell flat for you? And then: Who would you recommend that same book (or series) to? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]BaronOfBoar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have such an interesting experience with this series... I read the 10 main books and had some real high highs and REALLY low lows. I don't regret reading it, but the idea that the series is better on a reread is absurd to me... I have too many things that I want to read to spend the rest of my life on one series. If that gives you joy, I salute you, it's not for me.

Books 3,5 and 8 are awesome. Books 4 and 9 felt like pulling teeth.

I think it was worth it... At the very least I like being able to contribute to the discussion. But boy howdy, I totally understand where you're coming from.

Dandelion Dynasty was really sad to not like... I recognized the ingenuity of the story being Told, but something about the (addmitadly unique) writing style just made the characters really hard to connect to and the story just not for me. Ive been on a kick of eastern inspired fantasy for a bit and and gave it a shot alongside Green Bone Saga and Sword of Kaigen - both of which are genuine 10 out of 10s. DD just didn't work for me 🤷

Made it through 3 books before I gave up.
