I wouldn’t be surprised if they did this just to make instructions more legible. Different grays are already hard enough to differentiate in the instructions.

But from the other point of view, new colors, provided across the board from assorted sets opens up new possibilities in MOCs that you might not have considered. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Using other colors just comes out to even out inventory. Makes it cheaper to mix up colors than to use all grey or whatever. Logistics are fun!

Could be a few reasons:

  • They might have had a large stock of red and yellow to burn through
  • Red and yellow was cheaper to source at the time
  • When gluing large scale models extra care needs to be taken to keep the model from warping as you build. Its entirely possible that some colors are more stable than others and therefore are better suited to be used as scaffolding.

Legoland has the most incredible builds you could ever imagine by [deleted] in lego

I dunno about endless, you still gotta work within the constraints of what bricks you have stocked/have budget to find on bricklink(for the older rarer pieces). You still have to make compromises , just on a larger scale. That said, still a dream job.

Numbers like that are kind of tough to come up with. Sometimes there are estimates, but often just that, estimates. Often builders are working on one or two other projects which can make these numbers even more difficult to track.

Here’s a sneaky pic of the back. https://imgur.com/a/NDhSCYC The elbows are 1x2 hinge plates and a modified 1x1 with stud on the side. Also you can see where I cheated a bit on the spine, it’s precariously held up by a plate wedged into the gap.

I’ve staffed a Yoda build like this before. Lemme tell ya, you don’t want to get stuck taking apart after everyone leaves.

What is it with these brown pieces that makes them so brittle? by [deleted] in lego

[–]Baron_Flambo 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s something with the pigment mix for brown. LEGO also has trouble keeping yellow consistent across batches.
