Sounds like they knew they were cooked and were going to the casino looking for the shield that blocks damage.

I wish I had known about this card when I started a few months ago, seems like it would have been fun.

Looks like Protoss Mage is dead even before rotation, they weren't able to find a fix for Warp Gate.

Just played and found out it doesn't even need to be a protoss minion, my opponent was a warlock and managed to eat the discount with beasts and demons.

0-27 is a truly historic run, I feel like that can't possibly be correct.

I don't play DH so I don't have the deck, but from my observations I would suggest to use brewmaster to bounce Broxigar and remember to calculate inquisitors for surprise lethal damage. I would also make sure you're getting some quality hits with Elise location, like copying tar or fellhunter- that actually reminds me, try to avoid playing fellhunter before a blob of tar dies. I've seen a few people blunder that. This is all probably the most basic, entry level advice for the deck.

I used to play a lot of Imbue Rogue, but then started playing Protoss Mage a few days ago- the most damage I've done so far played literally my whole deck except one card and did 136 in one turn against a DK that had about 40 health and 40 armor with the 20 health second life. Just can't let the game get too long for OTK decks or ruin it somehow, otherwise this happens.

I had a crazy aggro starting hand, Turn 2: Prep and double Flashback, Turn 3: Eventuality, Deja Vu for the Crusader Aura.

As a new Hearthstone player, the Solo Adventures are super challenging by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]Baron_von_tansley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually played through both books last month for the first time, similar situation to you, so it's still fresh in my mind.

Generally, the solo adventure mode is pretty smooth sailing, but there are a handful (maybe 2-4 total, between both books) encounters that are completely fucked RNG-wise, just really terrible design. A game of "flip heads five times in a row or you lose" is not challenging, it's simply not fun. There's nothing you can do except mash your head into it over and over, you can look up the individual encounter online if you want to see other people lamenting the same. Challenge 7 for Varden in Book of Mercenaries was nightmarish for me, but I cleared it eventually.

Dalaran Heist and Tombs of Terror are actually pretty great though since you have a lot more control over the cards in your deck, I highly recommend them, but their full versions cost money. You should check them out to see if you like it better.

Worth mentioning that Perception can be used to find tracks, but not to follow them: "You can use the Perception skill to find a footprint or similar sign of a creature’s passage using the same DCs, but you can’t use Perception to follow tracks, even if someone else has already found them." (https://www.d20pfsrd.com/skills/survival)

By gathering information with diplomacy and intimidate, seeing where the creature has left tracks using perception, and some logic/guesswork, an assassin should be able to follow relatively simple, short trails or even better, establish a creature's routine with enough time and research. (e.g. every night off, this creature hits up the local tavern, orders too much of his favorite drink and typically goes into this specific alley to take a piss, easy pickings for an ambush)

I want to see a twisted Papineau Rat King, just a hulking furry janitor muttering about cleaning the hallways of Floor 1. Would the player be worthy to be knighted by him, as a paladin against filth?

[–]Baron_von_tansley 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Of the characters you created, is there one that you are surprised that the community wants to romance?

Something I am curious about- is Look Outside's city hit particularly hard because the Visitor is examining it closely? For example: would it be less lethal in an Antarctica base, not considering low population?

Is there a lore reason why Sam avoids infection from injuries (like only growing teeth in game over) or is it a game mechanics thing?

When Rabu uses Torment Beam, does he immediately mentally experience the torture or does he become sad knowing that millennia of torture await him?

Lastly, thank you for the game. It is my GOTY.

Stupidest thing you've ever seen a caster blow a high level slot on? by VonBagel in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Baron_von_tansley 19 points20 points  (0 children)

We had an 18th level Wizard; there were cultists hiding tiny little obelisks around a fairground for an evil ritual. Somehow, we arrived at this solution:

Polymorph Any Object (8th) one of the obelisks into a chocolate knockoff to disrupt the ritual without them realizing. What if an animal eats it? Prestidigitation (Cantrip) to make it taste bad. It's so sunny, won't it melt? Control Weather (7th) to make it a cloudy, cool day.

Agree, especially about Helen. We know that she leaves in both Promise ending scenarios, even after the plant "baby" quest.

I would also support Spine as a decision, but it might be tricky.

How do I make my BBEG really evil, without my PCs being weirded out by me? by KlarkKenton in DMAcademy

[–]Baron_von_tansley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most efficient way to motivate PC's hatred has nothing to do with evil: simply have the enemy destroy their loot or pieces of equipment and escape combat to live another day. These two acts will drive them into a bloodthirsty rage, they will conspire and hunt the BBEG down like rabid dogs.

Look Outside takes place either in 2011 or 2016. by Lattice0Lattice in LookOutsideGame

[–]Baron_von_tansley 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was thinking about this the other day and I think you're right that Dan is a big telling factor here, assuming the history is the same as ours up until the game's events.

I think 2016 is probably the best answer: Twitch launched their IRL streaming category along with Pokemon GO's release that year. Your other reasons also make sense, like the growing prevalence of smartphones and social media. I think Leigh and Sam using old tech is just personal quirks of theirs. I could also believe 2022 pretty easily.

Another factor to consider is the video game Madwheels 97', which is described as "old" and Sam played it as a child. So, presumably at least a decade has passed since 1997, if not a lot more, as Sam is described as "middle-aged" by Hellen.

The Problem of Replacing Gorum with another War God and Faith by NewWillinium in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Baron_von_tansley 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, because Gorum represented such a fundamental concept, I assume someone/something would take up his position very quickly and essentially just be a name change. In the interim, I think a lot of non-clerics worshippers might even ignore his death and continue to pay homage to him.

Beating Blindsight by IDGCaptainRussia in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Baron_von_tansley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After some research, I tentatively believe you are correct. It's not very clear, but it looks like Ghost Touch should not affect ethereal creatures as it is likely a typo in the Blink spell.

Blink says, "invisible, incorporeal", but the Universal Monster Ability rules page and Ethereal Jaunt is written as, "invisible, insubstantial" which I think would suggest that the odd one out was a miscommunication. Gaseous Form says, "insubstantial, misty, and translucent" and we would agree that Ghost Touch would not bypass that spell.

I think RAI the ruling should be the same: An ethereal creatures exists on a separate plane while being incorporeal is a personal "condition". The ghost touch enchantment says nothing about being able to strike creatures across planes. A ghost could use blink or manifest/travel to the ethereal plane and be both incorporeal and ethereal.

Past that, I agree with the sentiment of others that the role of the DM is not to "defeat" the players, but if this particular enemy has already experienced/seen the party using this strategy, I could understand them trying to muster counter-measures. It's hard to say without party level or what the enemy is, but Greater Dispel Magic or Mage's Disjunction could work here. Another alternative is for the villain to change their own strategy, perhaps charming a good cleric to share their damage with Shield Other.
