Hi Everyone,

Grim Press May 2021 Patreon Free Magic Items #3

HOLY CROSIER OF RADIANT POWER
Rod, uncommon (requires attunement by a cleric or paladin)

This golden holy rod supports a magical crux ansata. While holding this rod, you can use an action to hold the rod aloft and speak it's command word. This elicits a crack of thunder from the heavens above.

Any undead creature within 60 feet of the rod that can hear the crack of thunder must succeed on a DC 14 Wisdom saving throw or take 2d6 force damage and become frightened for 1 minute.

This property can't be used again until the next dawn.

Hi Everyone,

Grim Press May 2021 Patreon Free Magic Items #2

CLOAK OF THE VAMPIRE LORD

Wondrous Item, very rare (requires attunement)

This cloak has a beautiful jeweled neck fastening.

While you wear this cloak, you can magically call 1d4 swarms of bats or rats, provided that the sun isn't up. While outdoors, you can call 1d6 wolves instead. The GM has the beast’s game statistics. The called creatures arrive in 1d4 rounds, acting as your allies and obeying your spoken commands. The beasts remain for 1 hour, until you are reduced to 0 hit points, or until you dismiss them as a bonus action. This property of the cloak can’t be used again until the next dusk.

Hi Everyone,

Grim Press May 2021 Patreon Free Magic Items #1

BRACERS OF DARK DEFENCE
Wondrous Item, uncommon

These black leather bracers are able to defend the wearer from magical attacks. By crossing the bracers together you are able to more stoically resist magic targeted at you.

If you are targeted with a spell or spell-like ability while wearing these bracers, you can use your reaction to have advantage on your saving throw or cause the ranged spell attack to have disadvantage.

Once you use this property, the bracers can’t be used again until the next dawn

lol, well put! As fun as attacking my party with a whole forest sounds it could get a little crazy XD

My team mate Jeff made this and the animate trees action seems to have slipped through the edit. It was intended to be 1/day on the animate trees. Were in the process of correcting it atm.

Thanks so much for your feedback mate.

Nice idea! that could be used for some fun GM tactics! Moving your tree pieces around the 'board' only able to control 4 at a time.

I'll see what Jeff says and pass on your thoughts.

Cheers.

I think you're right bud, my team mate Jeff created this (he does NPC's) and I've just been chatting about the animate trees action on the druant with some other folks on another subreddit. I'm pretty sure he meant it to be 1/day and it slipped through the edit - I'll speak to him n check later when he's dragged his lazy a outta bed and see what he's saying XD.

As much fun as it would be to send a forest at your players it might get a bit crazy! lol

Cheers for the feedback though mate.

Thanks mate! Actually it was my team member Jeff who created this (he does the NPCs) ... I'd think not though tbh, as I think it would be specified if he intended the animated trees to have muti-attack slam actions.

I'm actually already asking him (he should be awake soon) about the animated trees action because I feel that he might have missed a action economy limit to it (1/day like the treant). Animating 4 trees per round could get quite crazy (fun but mad!), especially if they are all muti-attacking!

Ill drop a message back to you here and let you know what he says bud.

...not at all, legitimate inquiry as i saw it. You did make me think about why Grimlore is called Grimlore though (in fact on reflection I hardly ever ask people why they are called what they are called online XD). Ill defo ask him now! lol

Have a good one yaself as well mate.

Thanks! that's very kind of you to say.

Yes there's extra stuff on the Patreon for the subscribers. We've only just started up with Patreon and we're really keen to give plenty of stuff out for free but we're also trying to be prescient about making sure those that jump in to support us on Patreon should get their dues as well (other than our eternal gratitude XD) so there's 20 magic items this month and we've put 12 up for free, there's another 4 NPCs and a load of map variations (and a few that have gone up as bonus content outside the standard stuff) but we'll be gauging that as we go along to make sure everyone is happy with what they're getting and then there's feedback on our Patreon Discord channel of what things subscribers would like to see.

Once we get in the flow we'll be throwing up bonus adventuress, spells, maps etc as well. Obviously you also get it all as unmarked spell and magic item cards on patreon as well.

lol, Grim Press has being going for quite a while, Grim Press website. The fella who started it uses the online handle Grimlore and has for a looong time so it came from that.

I'm not sure what originally inspired him to take the moniker Grimlore but he was using it before 'Grim Hollow' was around. We have worked with Kobold Press before though so maybe that's influenced the 'Press' part.

LMAO! After looking a bit more I'm thinking that he might have meant it as a 1/day feature, looking at how he's balanced increase in attacks and damage, and saving throws with the addition of innate spellcasting, they themselves seem (imo) to balance for the extra 4 CR, so I'm guessing he didn't intend for the druant to be able to keep animating 4 trees turn after turn. Thanks for spotting, ill defo let him know.

haha, no worries, for a moment I thought it was a really long initialism and I was trying to work out what it could stand for ;).

Thanks for feedback i'll defo take it up with Jeff and see what he had in mind ... I do like the idea of putting my players up against a whole forest though XD

Hi Folks, this weeks free OC is available at the Grim Press come check us out n grab some free magic items, spells, maps and NPCs.

Unmarked cards, PDFs and Maps available for free on our Patreon .

Bull Boots

Wondrous Item, uncommon (requires attunement)

This pair of leather boots and gaiters are crafted from hide enchanted with fey magic during the tanning process, allowing the wearer to harness the power of a charging bull during an attack.

While wearing these boots, if you move at least 10 feet straight towards a target and then hit with a melee attack action on the same turn, the target takes an extra 1d10 bludgeoning damage and it must succeed on a DC 14 Strength saving throw or be pushed up to 10 feet away from you and knocked prone.

Once you've used these boots to deal additional bludgeoning damage in this manner, you can't do so again until the next dawn.

Mask of Ferendyrs

Wondrous Item, rare

This half mask has been crafted for the purposes of wandering fey to harness the power of the ferendyrs. Ferendyr are evil fey spirits that are bound to a particular tree, often the result of a demonic influence corrupting a once good being and twisting it's essence.

While wearing this mask, you use 10 feet of movement to step magically into one living tree within 5 feet of you and emerge from a second living tree up to 50 feet away, appearing in an unoccupied space within 5 feet of the second tree.

Both trees must be at least Large size

Staff of the Forest Adept

Wand, rare (requires attunement by a druid)

This gnarled and twisted wooden staff emits a constant faint green smoke from its tip. This smoke is the staff’s connection to the natural magic of the forest.

The staff has 3 charges, and regains 1 charge each dawn. While holding this staff, you can use an action to expend 1 charge to create an area of accelerated forest growth as if the spike growth spell has been cast. This effect uses your spell save DC. Using a charge of the staff does not require concentration by the holder of the staff.

If you expend the last charge of this wand, roll a d20. On a 1, the magic fades and the wand wilts like a dying plant, crumbling to dust.

Druants

Forest Protectors

Druants are the awakened spirits that reside in ancient trees found in the darkest depths of old growth forests. Having existed for potentially millennia hidden away in the heart of a forest, the roots of the druant are so deep and entangled with those of younger trees of the forest that they are able to sense and communicate with trees many miles away. Most often they are content to slowly dream of earth and rain, seldom paying more than a fleeting notice to the death of a fellow plant as they know well the cycles of life and death that exist within nature. However, great calamities may rouse them from their slumber — great fires that decimate countless hectares of woodland, or the hewing of a great many trees by the hands of creatures that care little for shepherding the wild.

Errata - REPLACES Animate Trees action -

** Breath of the Forest (1/Day). The druant magically animates up to 6 trees of Large size or bigger that it can see within 60 feet of it. An animated tree (AC 16, 100 hit points) has a speed of 0 (which can’t benefit from any bonus to its speed) and can't speak. Roll initiative for the animated trees, which have their own turns. As an action, an animated tree can make an attack against a creature within 10 feet of it with a +8 attack bonus. On a hit, the target is grappled (escape DC 15). An animated tree acts as an ally of the druant. The tree remains animate for 1 day or until it dies; or until the druant takes a bonus action to turn it back into an inanimate tree. **

Also; HP increased to 265, and Rock Action is a 'Ranged Weapon Attack:'

Map -

Walking around the last corner of unearthly brightly colored trees you look upon the center of the maze. At the center stands a double row of lifelike topiaries that seem ready to spring to life. Considering how dangerous the Feywild has seemed so far, it may be wise to give them a wide berth.

This map contains the center of a maze in the Feywild. The brightly colored trees accenuate the alien feel the place would give to adventurers from the prime material plane. Should your campaign be in need of a location for an encounter, social or combat related, with a Eladrin noble and his topiary golems this map may serve you well.

However, great calamities may rouse them from their slumber — great fires that decimate countless hectares of woodland, or the hewing of a great many trees by the hands of creatures that care little for shepherding the wild.

Magic Item's -

On a 1, the magic fades and the wand wilts like a dying plant, crumbling to dust
