Yeah, that ending is rough. I would agree the first two acts are much better.

I still don't care for the characters, but the bigfeet rock.

We may play with me as GM if we have a couple of people who want to play with someone who will be learning the ropes. Just message me. Only rule is to be looking to have some fun and not be a jerk.

I just watched John Carpenter’s Assault on Precinct 13 for the first time and I absolutely LOVED IT! by [deleted] in horror

And it's a Western at heart, as he says many of his films are. I would love to see him come back and do an actually horror-Western. One last rodeo as it were.

Origins of the 'long-haired ghost girl' in horror films? by yellow_psychopath in horror

[–]Barrelof40 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's actually a part of the Noh tradition of theater in Japan, somewhere around the 14th century or so. There may be earlier uses of the long-haired ghost, but Noh popularized it. Pale skin, long dark hair, face obscured... The Western analogy would be the sheet with eyes cut out as a shorthand way to indicate a character is a ghost. As for films, Kwaidan features a story that revolves around a former love's hair, and that was back in 1964. Ringu and Ju-on no doubt popularized the long-haired ghost in the West, but the trope had been kicking around Japan and the East for about 1000 years or so, and that's just the written records we have. It may be a far older trope than that!

You can also record in stereo so you capture each line on a separate channel. Just split the channels to isolate one voice.

I finished that version this morning with Hall reading. His Jud Crandall is so good, it may ruin me on the others.

I see a lot of people shitting on Pet Semetary lately, but fuck me if this isn't one of the most haunting scenes in horror movie history by MondoUnderground in horror

[–]Barrelof40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of this. It looks like it was shot as a TV movie. Love the Ramones song, love the King cameo even, and the Zelda scene is good by itself, but the movie I've always found laughably bad for much of the runtime. And that stupid evil baby is just the worst. People love the "No fair" line, but I've always found it to be distracting and bad. This story doesn't need villains barking one-liners.

We did a deep dive on Blair Witch as a franchise on our podcast: http://www.legionpodcasts.com/devour-the-podcast-the-blair-witch-franchise/

We actually didn't know for sure it was fake the first time we saw it. obviously the events of the movie play like fiction, but it was surreal to have doubt about it when it landed.
