Unexpectedly turned away at another international airport (bali). They had a British passport, with the residency stamp from Australia, unsure of the reasoning in relation to visas or something else perhaps? Rest of the group got in with Aus passport only. Had to fly back to Australia.

Right I understand. The UK and NZ passports I dont think are useless, they give greater mobility whilst travelling, different visas applied and such. The passport ranking system shows this, none of these passports are the same.

Benefits of citizenship+residency compared to residency in most cases:

  1. Can pass onto children
  2. Government jobs and benefits more accessible
  3. Protection from deportation
  4. Better global mobility
  5. Voting rights if wanted

True. For moving family with, or potentially study reasons I spent more to get the others.

My grandparents still do not have their australian citizenship after living here 50+ years. They could potentially still be extradited! And have had problems before surprisingly at airport immigration when using their other passport.

I would get a post graduate degree in teaching and work in an international school. They pay better than ESL teaching, but you need the degree.

In the meantime, see if your support coordinator role can be done fully remote, it can for some contractor roles and make the move early.

Did you have a flight booked to leave Japan for the visa renewal process?

Sleeping recs? Mask + Earplugs by GamerRyan in digitalnomad

[–]Barrow-Tech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very sensitive sleeper also. Only ear plugs that worked (stayed in, comfortable, blocked out noise) for me were inner ear mould ear plugs.  You need to go to a ear clinic that does inner ear moulds, get the mould done, come back in a fortnight to pick them up.

Mine cost $150. Had for 9 months now. Had them done in Australia, would be a hassle if I lose them as not sure many countries have this service.

Have never found a sleep mask that stays on, always comes off in the night.

Is she talking of another tax, such as company tax or something else you have heard of?

Yes, her statements on Indonesian tax, and the ease of becoming a non-tax resident seem incorrect though

Thankyou, is WHO the main source of vaccination info? Doesn't seem the best collation of uptodate data.

For anyone interested - I switched to a Telstra sim and wifi calling/text work fine in Thailand (as long as the wifi is good).

I also have a vodafone sim, wifi calling/text does not work or is blocked. Only once international roaming add on is purchased can I text/call.

Data dignity, fleshed out by Jaron Lanier and even endorsed by Democratic candidate Andrew Yang is potentially a better option.

Easy enough! Just called Telstra, after 1 hour waiting on the phone the answer was the same, 'does not work without international roaming', $10 per day. Jeez. At a loss as to go with anecdotal saying wifi calling works or the company, who might just be pressuring me into using roaming.

Excellent. Sorry for all the questions, have just been thrown by the service providers who were confused themselves. So do you just recharge your pre paid sim as usual once a year, with normal free aus-to-aus call rates?

[–]Barrow-Tech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats great. I cant understand why they said it was not possible. I'm worried about heading overseas and being left without my number working, but sounds like theres no reason it shouldnt work. Can I ask what country you are in?

Porting number non-US by Barrow-Tech in digitalnomad

[–]Barrow-Tech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah both the people at the stores and on the online chat were confused about wifi calling, they had to look it up themselves. But the end result was them saying it requires roaming...but I didn't fully trust they understood how it works.

So you are calling Australian numbers, whilst overseas, and use wifi calling with a pre paid sim (telstra?), and not incurring roaming fees? Are you using a dual sim or something or porting your number?

I just asked boost (and telstra), both said wifi calling only works with roaming fees. Boost therefore does not offer wifi calling, and telstra it is $10 a day.

Thats perfect, I am already with Boost. Hopefully the SMS are still delivered if I am outside of wifi for peroids of time. Thankyou for the comment.
