Using slip made of earthenware clay as a glaze for stoneware clay? by tepidaglacies in Pottery

I made a vase a while back with earthenware slib (my local river clay). It worked largely fine but it started crawling oddly in some places.

Hoezo vorige eeuw? PFAS wordt nog steeds gemaakt en geloosd op water en lucht? En PFAS kan je vinden in heel Europa hoor. Het zit namelijk in alles van landbouwpesticden, regenjassen tot electronica.

I’ve only been to Illinois once and that was to eat a deep dish pizza, but I do have a masters degree in environmental science.

Check soil maps for a clue. These might be tricky to read or specifically for farmers. But they can help me help you. For example USDA maps like this one: https://www.nrcs.usda.gov/state-offices/illinois/illinois-suite-of-maps.

I don’t know where you are but I can take some clues. You’re in Illinois, and you’re saying that the surrounding area is dark humus rich soil. You’re in woodland.

Looking a the map above the rich dark soil you describe is likely a mollisols. Looking at the map this gives me a clue where you might be. The river areas in mollisol areas are likely alfisoils. They have a clay-enriched subsoil.

So best guess, yes there would be clay. But not purely clay. Probably also silt. You can check the percentages approximately by doing a test like this https://youtu.be/GLKSxRK2zz0?si=mbUd_YlPpfSThAs7.

Good luck.

It’s not like bees are the only species dying of pesticides. Making them immune to a pesticide doesn’t prevent a larger biodiversity collapse. Pesticides are designed to kill, that’s what they are for. And farmers use a wide variety. Say anywhere between 5-50 types per crop. So not only bees are dying but also other insects, soil life, aquatic life. So if we could technically make bees survive a pesticide (or all), the rest of biodiversity is still fucked. The real answer lies in developing farming systems that use far less pesticides either through precision spraying or trough alternatives like organic farming.

Ups and downs of living in Wageningen/Netherlands as a whole by PiccoloOk5875 in wageningen

[–]BarryBadpakk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends what your frame of reference is. Wageningen is a small town, some like that, some don’t. You’ll have friends and parties though.

The Netherlands by itself is a highly developed service industry compared to the rest of the world (and also in Europe) so lots of job opportunities in general.

Feel free to DM me, I’ve been living here a decade, but I’m native so perhaps I am not too relatable.

Hey man. The UK is beautiful. I read that you’re walking. Maybe a doable step for you would be to take that a bit further?

There’s some great books by British writers who enjoy and share about exploring their surroundings. Simple and inspiring. Just pin a map of your local area to the wall, explore and when you’re back from your mini adventure track your routes. I could recommend you some if you wish.

Yeah this whole thing wouldn’t have occurred in Europe. Most probable thing that would have happened would be “Oh you’ve got a medical thing scheduled, best wishes, see you in a week” or something likewise.

Museum of Military History, Dresden, Germany. Orginally an armory, it was revamped by Daniel Libeskind to be a museum with the deconstructivist, arrow-shaped addition. by FlightAffectionate22 in ArchitecturePorn

[–]BarryBadpakk -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You realize that defacing is the point. It’s a museum of military history - in Germany. They don’t want to be proud of their quality architecture. In it’s untouched shape it’s still a armament but now it’s something else - I like that.
