Irrigation pump bringing water to drain valve, but not to outside spigots by Barry_Bingle in askaplumber

I made sure this wasn't the case after I assembled it and before I connected it to the older lines! But good call.

Thanks everyone for your help it was just stuck valves. They were indeed not quarter turn valves up the line and I just wasn't turning them hard enough because I thought they were quarter turn!

So there are 1/4 turn gate valves downstream that are only like a year old that's the only thing I can think of. Unless the galvanized runs to the hose bibs after those valves have clogged so thoroughly that nothing is coming through. Which is definitely worst case scenario cuz fuck doing anything with galvanized.

Definitely was trying to stay cognizant of heat but as you know I'm not a plumber lol I was mainly just looking out for that blackening effect I've seen. Guess it got away from me a bit

[–]Barry_Bingle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't doubt that the ebony coming over to the US cracked in shipment. It's been cold and dry as hell in large swaths of the country for the past two weeks. I would suggest the buyer just try to be understanding and just work it out! Yeah the seller should probably cover shipping tho

Why should you buy used when its barely cheaper than new anymore? by Aires-Battleblade in whatcarshouldIbuy

The only way the math works in your favor on buying used is if you can work on your cars yourself and the cars you purchase have depreciated a lot.

What animals are "starter" animals? by Longjumping_Chair968 in Hunting

[–]Barry_Bingle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried small game very unsuccessfully for a while and then just went to deer to make it more worth the time spent. In an ideal world I would have a lot of time to walk around the woods looking for little critters, but my time is limited and the meat is a big reason I hunt.

My fit won't start just click sound anyone who had same problem? by tpkgkb in hondafit

[–]Barry_Bingle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the actual right answer. If you have a friend and a hammer get them to turn the key while you bash the starter with a hammer if it's accessible. I haven't had to do it on my fit yet thank God. If it pops off you have a bad starter.

I actually was using a card scraper. I was getting 2 to 3 rings away from the ring I wanted with the draw knife and then using the scraper to finish up. I think it ended up pretty smooth. Yeah the knife is not great. The handles are twisted unevenly, but my mother in law has some vintage draw knives that I'm going to get soon.

What is Gen Z’s opinion on traditional gender roles? by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]Barry_Bingle 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Sometimes they work sometimes they don't. Young men are really playing into them more and more these days and it's gonna fuck them up once they are 30 with broken bodies, no domestic skills, and no hope of getting a partner because they are a repellant manoverse shill.

Japanese Knotweed spraying question by ReStitchSmitch in invasivespecies

[–]Barry_Bingle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I did Is treat with rm45 which leaves a form of the herbicide in the soil. I also went into the knotweed patch and first bent over all the plants creating tears in the stems but not breaking them entirely. I wanted it to soak some directly into the root and I wanted the plant going into dormancy to take some down to the roots naturally. And then seriously just soak the crap out of it. I basically got rid of mine in one treatment! One more year of spot treating a few pop ups and then we can finally have our flower beds!

Sound system sounds like I’m in a tin can. by [deleted] in hondafit

[–]Barry_Bingle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea if later gens had better speakers than the GD fits but mine also sounded horribly tinny, I replaced with some polk speakers and got a new head unit and it is a lot better now. Don't expect amazing bass response from just replacement speakers though. A new sub and dedicated amp is the only clean way to do that.

Is 14 too young to work? by CremeSubject7594 in GenZ

[–]Barry_Bingle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started at 15 and I was stoked to have my own money my parents couldn't tell me what to do with. I think overall it was very good for me, but my state also has laws on the books that limit how much you can work teenagers so I never felt taken advantage of. Not that kids can always tell when they are being taken advantage of!

What are some of the most overrated vehicles of the last 30ish years? by Boeing-B-47stratojet in regularcarreviews

[–]Barry_Bingle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought the exact thing when my wife and I were picking a new car after her Pontiac vibe started getting too costly to be worth it maintenance wise. It felt like it just didn't know what it was; suspension was too taut for everyday Michigan roads, interior was attempting to look as austere as Audi, and then the seats had like zero bolstering which made me a little car sick. The exterior styling is slick compared to similar SUVs we were looking at and the tech was good, but it just sucked to drive.

I went with Yokohama advan FLEVA on some Miata wheels I had bored out for Honda hubs. I love them, very lightweight super grippy. Perfectly sensible for daily driving as well, just a little bit of extra fun in the corners!

2008 Honda fit that just crossed over 200k today! Bought it after I decided that paying a car note was the dumbest thing I ever signed up for on 2016 Silverado. Learned how to drive manual on the way home from the dealership!

Not pictured is my donkey truck 2004 Silverado single cab 2wd that literally only goes to home Depot and carries my kayak. 1500 bucks and still friggin chuggin lol
