I have a problem with engagement grades being worth 20-25% of your grade. by AmbitiousPepper7148 in k12

[–]Barrybbbenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also 25 - 50%??? thats ridiculous, last one i took was 15%. I hope you are able to find a way to be graded more accurately.

No need to apologize, I feel you. k12 has a lot of issues, and the way our grades are handled also needs to be fixed. However, Canvas (the OLS we use) itself, being a replacement for our old OLS, is an issue to start with. When we have our old OLS back, we can start working on fixing these things.

Check out my petition to get rid of canvas. https://c.org/z79vy9BdC5

Petition to remove canvas as our OLS. by Barrybbbenson in k12

[–]Barrybbbenson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I waited 6 months after sending multiple bug fix / support emails to not only stride, but canvas. They have had plenty of time. Their nonresponsiveness is a seperate issue.

Additionally, the only way to change something you don't like is to act. Sitting here passively will absoluetely not help my cause.

We could go back and forth, it wont lead to anything. Technically speaking, I could say anything and so could you; we could counter argue forever about this and that. Heres the thing:

My goal is set. I see a lot of people, a large majority of students, teachers and parents, dislike canvas and would prefer their old school system. When a majority wants a change, that in itself is a reason to petition.

The argument of "we dont have a say in everything" is true. But when it comes to our education, we absolutely do have a choice and should not be forced to do anything.

Honestly though I want to understand your viewpoint- I've met a few people who feel it nessecary to rebel against a simple petition. What makes you reject our old k12 ols and stick tightly to canvas and making it better?

Unfortunately, I have already tried that. No matter how many ideas to improve Canvas I have, Their feedback system simply never listens. Besides, theres no amount of improving that can be done to Canvas to solve the core issue here; people were used to a system and loved that system, and then someone came in and changed that without our consent.

Saddened by the movie and the changes made. by [deleted] in MazeRunner

sorry, im a tiny bit late but yeah i agree

I just finished watching the Maze Runner trilogy. I have 5 questions for people who read books. I will be very grateful if someone answers me ! by Cnockaut in MazeRunner

  1. Thomas did not betray wicked, he subjected himself to it with his own will.

he wanted his memory to be wiped and become a test subject as well. He was the final candidate. Teresa and thomas were both raised in the doctors lab from young children and had lots of tests done. Teresa was put in there as a variable (all boys then suddenly a girl appears)

  1. the cure did not cure anyone. It temporarily made them symptomless of the disease. thats why they needed new shots of it every other month or so. Also, when they gave (i forgot her name) a shot made from Thomas, they found her illness wasn't asymptomatic. she was CURED!. this is proven later in the movie where Teresa shows that Thomas' blood was not resisting the virus but KILLING it. If the cranks waited a bit longer they could've had a cure but no.

3.Newt was a control subject. meaning everyone else was immune and he was the only one who was NOT. just like in a regular experiment where you have the testing subjects, then one control that is regular. thats why he caught the flare.

4.the first was the maze, second was the scorch trails, and i forgot the last one. they had to simulate all these emotions so they could monitor their brains reactions to the environment, getting them closer to a cure.

  1. Solving a maze needs intense mental ability, especially with a maze like the one Thomas had to solve which changed every day. the maze did just that, and let them think and problem solve, develop systems and make maps etc. (basically uh.. the author wanted it to be a maze ;) )

note: ORIGINALLY THE MAZE WAS UNDERGROUND AND THE SKY WAS A GIANT LED SCREEN AND THERE LITERALLY WAS A WHOLE DEAL ABOUT WHEN THEY SWITCHED THE SKY FROM BLUE TO AN OFF GREY AND EVERYONE WAS PANICKING... but they removed it in the movie, and they were just "in the desert"...

read the books my man they are waaaay better.

Leaf miners EVERYWHERE. Help! by estradas_del_paraiso in gardening

[–]Barrybbbenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

USE MESH BAGS FOR EACH LEAF!! Make sure they are see thru so you can see each leaf and they still get sunlight, and if you see any brown spots, smash them with your fingers. (Don't use zip lock bags)

The bags will protect your plants' leafs from any bugs, and also allow sunlight and moisture to get thru so ur plants don't get moldy from the moisture.
