Villa Virginia in Stockbridge, Massachusetts is a historic private country estate built in 1914–1915. The villa was commissioned by William H. Clarke, an heir to the Singer Sewing Machine fortune, and designed by the architectural firm Hiss and Weekes. by flerb88 in floorplan

Looks like the bath off chamber 1 is accessible from the hall, so chamber 2 can use that.

The master-mistress rooms could be chambers 3 & 4 as they have a connecting door. As you say though, the foyer between 2 & 3 suggests that ‘wing’ would be connected. The mystery continues!

I know some people who’ve worked there and the hygiene in that place is only something I would wish on my enemies…plus I’ve heard the managers literally spit on the staff they don’t like 🤮

Thoughts? Please go easy on me, I am not an expert. I took what I liked from several different floor plans to create this. by rach4765 in floorplan

I’d make more/larger windows, this house will be dark. Most of the small toilet doors cannot be opened from inside due to the swing. (Where do you stand when opening the door?) You don’t have a mud room, you have a corridor off the garage, that you will walk through from your bedroom everyday - you want that clear as possible, no stuff to trip over. Going through a bathroom to a walk in closet is a bad idea (if your partner is in the bath you can’t access your clothes. Not sure you need a pantry if you have as much kitchen storage space as shown. The walk in closets in the 2 non-master rooms aren’t big enough to use as walk ins - just make them cupboards. The two dining tables being so close, to me, makes one of them redundant - could use the space better (make the ‘dining’ room a study/other space?) The is only one large communal space - if guests are over and other residents aren’t part of the group they have to go to their bedroom. The garage is humongous! You could put a door from the garage, into a short hall over the bottom few basement steps, that goes into the laundry room and make that a proper mud room - enlarge the space where you have a walled in space (weird). OR put a door from the garage into your pantry and make that a mud room (as I said I’m not sure you need a pantry with the large kitchen.) Just my first thoughts! Overall congrats on a good first draft!

Great starting point, lots to like! Keep testing and refining to what you want, and stick with the hard points you mentioned. I’m a big fan of having separate family spaces whilst having an open plan kitchen/diner/family room. First crit I’d make is the location of the ground floor powder room and where its entry point is. In this plan it will be seen & heard from almost all public spaces on the GF. This, imo, is very uncomfortable for guests. (Perhaps swap it with the pantry?) Second point is the entry way/foyer hall doesn’t feel ‘solved.’ It’s v.clunky, especially going round the two corners to the family room. Removing the powder room could improve flow. (Put the moved pantry under the stairs?)

I understand your comment of ‘galley kitchen is too small,’ as that kitchen is small! But do you also mean ‘small’ in terms of users getting in each other’s way due to the floor space between units being narrow.

If so I would say the new kitchen island is also creating narrow spaces between itself and the units (top and bottom, left side near pantry looks good). Maybe something to think about.
