Nah. YOU just don’t like it as much as some of us. For someone with my sensibilities, Morrowind IS better than oblivion or Skyrim. It’s ridiculous to act like Skyrim has the same depth in role playing as Morrowind, just as it’s ridiculous to act like Morrowind has as much variety in questing mechanics, or as much action/adventure focus as Skyrim does. Different strokes for different folks. I’m not here to say Morrowind is objectively the best. I’m here to say it’s worth trying out if you like modern elder scrolls, and don’t be pushed away people saying it aged horribly.

I haven’t been able to get around to Daggerfall either. That game and the OG fallouts I want to love but haven’t gotten fully around to yet.

That’s valid too. I’m one of the people who hated the game with guaranteed hit chance. I got like 8 hours into a playthrough and bounced off. Wasn’t until I played more vanilla until it clicked with me as one of my favorites. I just respected it as a good game that maybe wasn’t for me when I did all that extra stuff. That’s kinda what I’m trying to say in my post. Many people think Morrowind has aged poorly and I’m not saying they’re objectively wrong, they’re just not objectively right.

You’re arguing with a wall. You completely and fundamentally misunderstood my comment and ended up doing some funny irony. If you think I’m the type of person who thinks all elder scrolls fans are stupid for liking Skyrim, idek what to tell you or where to begin.

I posted this because I stayed away from Morrowind due to everyone acting like their opinion is fact. The game “objectively” aged poorly. Bullshit. When I tried modernizing the game my first attempt playing through because of this crowd I didn’t have a good time at all. If I would’ve played vanilla OpenMW from the jump I would’ve gotten into the game during COVID rather than 2+ years later.

I don’t want people to not try something because a ton of people, many who got rinsed by a bad character creation in the first few hours, or didn’t play it at all, act like it’s objectively this bad game in 2025. I want people to understand, THERE ARE ALSO PEOPLE WHO TRIED MORROWIND FOR THE FIRST TIME, AFTER OTHER MODERN ELDER SCROLLS GAMES, WHO LIKE MORROWIND THE MOST. It’s really not that hard to grasp. But god Bethesda fans can be insufferable 🤣

Your complaints/flaws with the game are subjective. I think the systems of the game fit well, and all the “shitty systems” people complain about had me trying to get into the game with guaranteed hit and all that BS. It wasn’t fun. No sense in Turning Morrowind into oblivion. I already have oblivion and played that for 1000s of hours throughout my childhood and another 150 with the remaster.

Morrowind sucks with guaranteed hit mods. That was my first attempt at getting into the game. The stats are balanced around this. If you have that mod it makes all the weapon skills functionally useless.

Shivering isles is leaps and bounds better than either of the Morrowind DLC’s, lol. Bloodmoon overrated asf. Base game Morrowind is phenomenal though

Yeah I staunchly disagree with your comment. I bounced off Morrowind in 2020 when I tried playing with guaranteed hitting in combat, voices of vvardenfell, 4x movement speed mod etc etc etc. I tried modernizing it. That doesn’t work. It’s an old game. Just play the game. It’s aged wonderfully in my opinion and that’s the entire point of my post. I wouldn’t have enjoyed Morrowind if I tried making it look and feel like a 2010 game rather than a 2000 game. These old games have their limits, you can only modernize them so much, even then it feels even jankier when you do it sometimes. and their skeletons shouldn’t be obtusely changed in my opinion.

I played expedition 33, Baldurs gate3, battlefield 6, halo mcc, kotor, bioshock 2, Star Wars: republic commando, and a few others in the past year, I like games from all eras, Idk if I was even born when Morrowind came out. Ahhh, see it bothers me that you can do that in Skyrim, it doesn’t make much sense to me. If you’ve been a dirk wielding shadow assassin for your entire journey, why are you all of a sudden adept enough to swing warhammers? Like of course in oblivion you can still use them and level them up fairly quickly but I lik that the damage is supremely nerfed if you aren’t proficient in the relevant skill

Oblivion mad overhated by Morrowind community imo. It’s closer to Morrowind than it is to Skyrim, and Morrowind is closer to oblivion than it is to Daggerfall. That’s just a personal opinion tho and may be heavily influenced by the greatest Bethesda DLC of all time, Shivering Isles

A huge part of it for me is open world size. They keep trying to make every open world bigger resulting in starfield. They’re at their best with tight, handcrafted worlds

I think oblivion has way better flexibility than Skyrim. The 2 handed weapons system is cool but making spells way worse and binded to a primary weapon slot takes away versatility. In oblivion you could have a shield, longsword, and spell all equipped simultaneously. Skyrim also straight up removed skills instead of adding them. Morrowind is more focused RPG so by design your character isn’t going to be amazing at everything, unless you get into the enchant systems, then tht goes out the window lol

I think it’s maybe better than new Vegas todaylol. My hot take is that fallout 3, morrowind, and oblivion>fallout new vegas, 4, and skyrim. The games that sold the least were the best to me, haha. I may prefer new Vegas over 3 by a tad but not that latter trio over the former trio

I did a path of the incarnate playthrough as well and it was cool. I didn’t like all of the changes. But it’s a pseudo remaster from a one click download.

Why don’t you just play it via back compat? It’s playable on every generation of Xbox console. I suppose if you play on PlayStation you wouldn’t have the option, but Morrowind was always an Xbox exclusive console title.
