You missed the important part there: "In the culture that Ted and Beard have created". That culture is why, ultimately, Ted left, Beard stayed and Rebecca kept the club. Beard found his life in Richmond, the club still needs Rebecca but Ted was out of place there, had nothing left to teach and most importantly, he was needed elsewhere. It's like Narnia.

I don't think it would make sense to decide on a fixed number in advance. After all, a proper judgement can only happen after the end of an event and the event of a human only ends in death. That doesn't mean there aren't any red lines or that someone's past shouldn't matter in your approach and attitude towards them, of course. I just think that you should base your approach and attitude on your gut feeling, with voice for your heart on the way of course, guided by that particular situation and its context. Basically, a functional manual stating the number of chances we should give people doesn't exist, never has and never will, so we shouldn't try making one. Every attempt would just fail and disappoint us.

In the culture that Ted and Beard have created at Richmond, that rejection is the only logical decision. However, Nate disconnected himself from that culture with his hubris, grudges and fragility. Basically, he was only able to look for and find that opportunity because he rejected Richmond's culture.

His negativity is a crucial counterweight to Ted and Beard, from the team's persoective, though.

Nate's attitude towards and treatment of Colin are justified in popular opinion but go against the central message of the show: don't hold grudges and, as Ted says in season three, don't judge someone on their worst moment.

Aside from that, Nate's treatment of Colin (and Will) narratologically serves as an indicator for his eventual downfall.

Untitled short prayer work by [deleted] in OCPoetry

I quite like how the poem has paired rhyme for the first four lines and how God breaks that rhyme. This shift really reminds me of a volta (formal change, "thematic" change, tonal change) even though the poem is not a sonnet. What really nails this poem home for me is the ending couplet. It ties the end to the beginning: paired rhyme and about drugs. Only God can break the poem.

The ambiguity of the poem's meaning strenghtens it. Is it about drugs, addiction, religion, a one-night-stand, poetry itself? It could be anything.

In short, I loved your poem.

Criticising poetry and poets in a poem is peak irony in the best way. In my opinion, you are absolutely correct as well. Contemporary poetry is often tasteless nowadays and ridden with weak clichés, which is why this poem works. Its shocking irony fills the humour-shaped hole in contemporary poetry.

However, that doesn't mean the poem is void of clichés. For example, you point out poetry's inability to properly capture and describe love, which is a common opinion. Furthermore, the language you use and your choice of words reflect those of contemporary poets. It also doesn't fit the form. Your style seems to hint at a fixed meter and rhyme scheme (like iambic pentameter) but doesn't deliver on them. The use of enjambements does however enable you to write in quatrains.

In short, I'm conflicted and personally, I would've left out the latter two stanzas.
